So I went to my doctor this morning. Normal necessary check-up stuff. Got a flu shot, and a minor lecture on how I should have got it earlier. She thought my blood pressure was fine at 132/90, which sounded high to me, as it was 120/78 last time. Got another lecture on my weight, and she urged me to walk more, as I've lapsed with the bad weather. (But I'd walked to her office today!) I promised to start walking again. Thought guiltily about the treadmill in our building that I'm not using.

oh sigh *the right kind of Doctor*

glad you were mostly deemed allright. Good luck with the walking, it is a great opportunity to listen to mp3s. You could perhaps try the more than hundred episodes of the Doctor, the audio versions are modern and feel more like the current series (while they aren't and you can see the reflection of the TV-originals) *grin* can't help myself. Good for on the threadmill, an otherwise kinda boring enterprise, though it is better for your knees than most undergrounds...

BP diastolic is a bit high, but in my experience, mine went up slightly in the Dr.'s office. She is, no doubt, aware of this phenomenon. Still, good to keep an eye on. Diet and exercise do help: I first went on meds in my 30's, was able to get off them several times when I paid attention to my weight, up until late 60's.

Good luck!

That's very encouraging to hear. Every time my bp goes up I worry that it will never adjust itself downwards again. This may just be the result of being too sedentary in November and December.

Nothing wrong with Dr. Griffiths, but I'd have been happy to see Captain Jack's "right kind of Doctor".

Yes, audio versions of the Doctor would be fun! Last week I was listending to Shakespeare.

I don't like the bottom number it should be below 80. Perhaps you should get a home BP machine? I have one by Omron that is great.

Do you think it would be helpful to know my own blood pressure? It isn't as if I could do anything about it except worry more.

High blood pressure has no symptoms until you have a stroke or heart attack. By monitoring it yourself you can take the numbers to your MD and she can see trends. My MD has a machine that checks your BP every few minutes for half an hour- then he reviews it. One measurement is not that helpful. I find it useful to know that I am in a good range as I don't see my doc very often.

We've already done several sessions of several month's worth of recording my blood pressure on a daily basis, or more, or less. Lots of numbers!

Blood pressure pisses me off. I'm rarely happy w/ what I hear; I swear I have a whitecoat pressure shoot-up...
