This evening I took a break from writing and watched Battlestar Galactica: Razor.

I liked the story, and I liked Kendra Shaw. I was reminded of Karin Lowachee's novel Cagebird, which I liked so much, in which the young protagonist was forced by a pirate captain to commit atrocities - he had to cope with it, to rationalize it, and to live with himself, which he managed to do by (aside from large doses of denial), drugs and cutting himself. The atrocities here, that Cain forced Shaw to commit, seemed very similar to me.

And the relationship between Cain and Six - wow. That explained a lot.

What I really, really loved, was to see another show on TV with strong female characters. I don't mean just because they were soldiers and action-oriented; they don't have to be physically tough to have strong personalities. Most female characters on most TV shows seem very tame to me. You've already heard me complaining this week about the unimpressive women on Heroes. I think we've not doing as well as we were a few years ago, with Firefly and Farscape and Veronica Mars and - well, Battlestar Galactica will be coming back.

It was so wonderful to see William Adama again, and Lee, and Kara. Especially since it was Kara before her trauma on New Caprica, and delightfully in character. When she crash-landed her Raptor inside the Pegasus - woo. Great scene.

Razor was tense and exciting and even frightening. It whetted my appetite for more. I hope the fourth series airs soon. Very soon.

When I found out that Razor would be an episode involving Adm. Cain, I hoped that it would be done right -- and apparently it was. I so look forward to seeing this! Cain was such a deeply disturbing character. I saw a photo in Starlog of Cain and Six sitting at a meal together -- and my mind began to weave stories. Heh.

Also like the idea that BG will conclude after one more year. On plan. Hm. I like it and I hate it.

Great tv is so hard to find. This has been great tv.

It certainly has been great TV, and I hope you enjoy Razor as much as I did. I found it riveting. I think you'll love what they did with Cain and the Pegasus version of Six.
