[livejournal.com profile] maaseru mentioned this to me earlier, but it was great to also see the actual news item, sent to me by a Dunnett fan friend in Toronto, about how Slings and Arrows won at the Gemini Awards. I only watched the first bit of the awards show, and so got to see Paul Gross give an award to Martha Burns.
Wearing jeans and a blazer, and chewing gum throughout his brief acceptance speech, Mr. Gross said, “I would like very much to dedicate this to the man who made me want to act in the first place, and that is my co-star and co-nominee, William Hutt.” The Canadian stage icon died last June.
I was surprised that Little Mosque on the Prairie didn't win a bunch of awards, but it got a unique award all its own:
CBC program Little Mosque on the Prairie was then honoured with the Canada Award for helping spread tolerance and understanding through its series.

"I'd like to thank my broadcaster, CBC, for being brave," said show creator Zarqa Nawaz, who stood along with her producers and several members of the cast.

It certainly was a very gracious tribute by Paul Gross.

Thanks so much for the links!

Interesting that they gave it an awared for Best Dramatic Series, when I think of it as a comedy.

Not that I don't think they deserved it, whatever name you give it. Perhaps it has too much narrative coherence to be considered a comedy?

Now I'm humming "Cheer Up Hamlet" under my breath. At work. But that's okay. For the past few days, it's been "Springtime for Hitler" I've been humming, so this is a nice change.

As we have the DVD, can't you put the song on UTube?

I have no idea how. I've never put anything on YouTube. Do you have the DVD? I don't. I only have season 3. Gotta do something about that.

Do you know how to put it up?

What, you mean because every eleven-year-old of our acquaintance can do it in two seconds?

Hah! I have my doubts.

Still. Willing to try. Do you have the DVD?

Love your new icon. I need to make a Strachey icon or two of my own.

Yes, I found the first season S&A DVD. It had been hidden in a box (not by me). Still missing the second season. Wonder who borrowed it?

More D/T icons are definitely needed!

I wish it had been me, because then I could produce it. But it wasn't, so I can't.

S&A is on my Christmas list.

D/T icons are something I'll attend to as soon as I have a few minutes. I smile just to think of them. I particularly want a Timmy icon.

A bit of drool on this one would have been sweet.
