Last time I used the cross-training machines I learned that it isn't very easy to read a comic book or a book on them. On the cycling machines, no problem. But on the cross-trainer the book balances in such a way that, when open, it is invariably heaving on one side of the spine or the other, and tends to fall over, or fall off the machine, at which point I have to pause and climb down and pick it up.

Not efficient.

I thought I'd have to watch the televisions there (which don't show Smallville constantly, what kind of defective TVs are those?) or listen to music, but today I didn't have my headphones with me so I tried reading slash. And guess what? It worked like a charm. Since it's printed out on paper and not bound, it balances nicely on the machine and never once fell off. Now I know I can read slash while exercising. Fun.

The story I was reading today was [livejournal.com profile] rageprufrock's Yellow Means Slow. Beautifully written, I thought: I loved it, especially the depiction of Martha's point of view and the way Rage captured her voice. I thought at first Lex was too nice, too downright close to saintly, but then I saw the reason for it. Though I don't usually like futurefics (and of course there are many exceptions), this did what a futurefic ought to do: satisfyingly bridged the gap from the reality of Smallville continuity to the reality of the Superman comics. Deftly done, and moving. Clark was particularly wonderful.

My hope for tomorrow is that I will find time to write. Yes!

Meditation: day 4. So far so good.

Om shanti.

*grins*

Just so you know--the title is "Yellow Means Slow".

I got all excited and freaked out that I had somehow missed new Pru fic since I didn't recognize the title. Hee!

Oops, sorry, my mistake. Hey, I'll fix it.

Under any name, it was a good story.
