Lunch in the park...
Jun. 28th, 2007 01:24 pmAbout once a week at lunchtime, sometimes more, I meet up with my friend Lisa and we walk, or talk, or lunch together. She doesn't work near me any more, but she's still more or less downtown - she's at Kent and Laurier, compared to my Rideau and King Edward. So we have taken to meeting at the Main Branch of the Ottawa Public Library and walking to Place Bell, where we buy lunch - usually a salmon sandwich and salad - then we sit in the park at Laurier and Elgin.
And right now the JazzFest is going on, so we get serenaded by the Amy Brandon Quartet. To my delight, they played Cole Porter's song "You'd Be So Nice to Come Home To", which I love because (a) I love Cole Porter songs, (b) John Barrowman sings it on one of his CDs, and (c) Cole Porter wrote it for one of his boyfriends.
Today the humidity and heat were much less than they have been, and it was perfect for a picnic. We talked about the latest Stephanie Plum novel, which Lisa just finished reading and which I'm in the middle of.
