I went over to
silverwhistle's web page to see her redesign (looks good!) and then did the 'who would you be in the middle ages?' she had linked to.
I don't know about this "Cardinal" business, I suspect I'd be as anti-church in the twelfth century as I am now - maybe more so, but I'd have to be more discreet about it.
Ah well, I like the notion of myself as a heroic knight - slaying dragons and rescuing maidens, maybe. Or handsome young men. Whatever.
Your Score: The Knight
You scored 44% Cardinal, 33% Monk, 44% Lady, and 51% Knight!

You are the hero. Brave and bold. You are strong and utterly selfless. You are also a pawn to your superiors and will be lucky if you live very long. If you survive the Holy wars you are thrust into you will be praised for your valor and opportunities both romantic and financial will become available to you.

Date: 2007-05-18 02:52 pm (UTC)Your Score: The Prioress
You scored 23% Cardinal, 64% Monk, 52% Lady, and 21% Knight!
You are a moral person and are also highly intellectual. You like your solitude but are also kind and helpful to those around you. Guided by a belief in the goodness of mankind you will likely be christened a saint after your life is over.
You scored high as both the Lady and the Monk. You can try again to get a more precise description of either the Monk or the lady, or you can be happy that you're an individual.

Date: 2007-05-18 04:38 pm (UTC)Cardinal is a good one to have, though - lots of wheeling and dealing while living a cushy life style. I'd go for it!
I got the Harlequin or Joglar (and inserted a more in-period picture).
Your Rembrandt knight is here in Glasgow, in the art gallery that has been redesigned too far…
I've now also added a page of Templariana (http://www.silverwhistle.co.uk/knightlife/templariana.html)…

That was my first thought, but my second thought was that there is no way on earth I could ever sustain that kind of hypocrisy for more than two minutes. I couldn't serve the Church, least of all as a servant of the servants of God. I'd want to be some Duke or Prince in some secular city-state, with all the high living and intrigue - but opposed to the Church, rather than part of it.
I like the Rembrandt knight very much indeed, though I am, on the whole, less a Rembrandt fan than most people are. There's a Rembrandt in our art gallery - I think it's the red-haired woman but I'm not sure if I'm remembering correctly. Someone Biblical. Some Biblical Queen? ... I think.
Templariana -
Wonderful!

Date: 2007-05-18 05:54 pm (UTC)I don't think I've ever read Prioress's Tale, I've read bits and pieces of Chaucer but never much and one of these days I plan to read Canterbury Tales right though, beginning to end. I think it's something any medievalist ought to know well, even though he is later than 'my period' and even though I've read some of the stories already in Boccaccio.

Date: 2007-05-18 06:25 pm (UTC)You, as a modern person couldn't, but as a mediæval person? It would be the mainstream of your society. I know my present-day views weren't even on the heresy-radar in those days. Had I lived in the Middle Ages, I would probably have been perfectly orthodox. Hell, I think I'd have made a good Abbess.

Date: 2007-05-19 04:39 pm (UTC)(Why not Abbot? Funny quiz anyway... I'm still pondering my role as Cardinal. I have come to like the idea of myself as an eminence scarlet, ruling the world through machiavellian applications of religious politics!)
