fajrdrako: ([Heroes] - Peter)
[personal profile] fajrdrako

I watched the Heroes episode "Landslide" with [livejournal.com profile] maaseru and [livejournal.com profile] maaboroshi. Loved it. [livejournal.com profile] maaboroshi and I kept squealing and gasping - the budgies got rather too excited (read: loud) and had to be banished to the bedroom. [livejournal.com profile] maaboroshi was somewhat less moved, perhaps because she is less attuned to comic book plotting. The plot thickens; the characters come together thematically; and with cliffhangers on every corner, I can't tell what's going to happen.

Shall I mention again that I love Peter Petrelli?

- Claire and Peter make a dynamite team.
- I love, love, love Mr Bennet now, with Matt and Ted as his cohorts. I don't even want him to have a first name. ("Dad" will do.)
- So: Hiro's father teaches him to fight like a kendo champion in what, an hour? Is his power super-speed teaching? Was it just me, or did Hiro seem to be maturing before our eyes? As usual, I loved all of Hiro's scenes, and all his dialogue. Especially his meeting with Nathan.
- I love the connections between people that are starting to fall into place. Mr Bennet with Ted and Matt, Matt having saved Molly Walker, Linderman curing Nathan's wife, Nathan's connection with Jessica/Niki, and so on....
- What is Nathan up to? He's still ambiguous. I loved his victory speech - ambiguous too.
- I love the way the older generation (Mama Petrelli, Papa-San Nakamura, Mr. Bennet, Linderman, etc.) talk about 'how it used to be' and how some of their number went back, but no one is specific enought to say who they thought was bad and who was good - we still don't know the alignments.
- I still don't much like Niki and Jessica but they were more interesting than usual here.
- Claude, Claude, I love you in absentia. Where are you?
- I love it whenever Peter turns invisible.
- I still want to see Mohinder manifest a power. Please? Pretty please? And what can Mama Petrelli do? What could Papa Petrelli do?
- Is Linderman dead? I doubt it. I really doubt it. Jesscia/Niki ought to remove his head and throw it out the window before she leaves.
- Candice was fascinating. She brings new meaning to the idea that appearances are only skin deep. I loved her scenes, and her dialogue with Micah. She's into comics! Like me and Lex Luthor! And I have Silver Surfer #1, too.
- At the end, the trailer on the American station was much longer and better than the trailer on the Canadian station. I think I've been watching the wrong channel.
- Sylar: ooh. Dramatic. Love his black coat. Love his Magneto-like scene with the truck.
- Where, oh where, is the Haitian?

Remember when Sylar is talking to the lady cop (I forget her name) and she turns around and he's not there anymore, but she can still hear his voice?

That's when I had an awful thought. Maybe Sylar already found Claude.

Mmmm, I don't watch the trailers.

Nathan to Hiro: (whispered) "I can't stop it." (whispered even more softly) "But you can."

Sure hope Lindermann stays dead. And what is tousan Nakamura up to anyway? One thought he was allied with Lindermann. Lindermann probably thought so too.

Yes, I had expected papasan to want to stop Hiro, not help him. All those years in the Enterprise, hah!

Yes, Sylar was awesome in this episode, and good for Mohindar standing up for Molly. I want Mohindar to manifest a power too, whine...

- I have to say the way DL took out Lindermann was pretty darn cool. Gruesome as hell, but pretty darn cool.

- Nathan was very nervous during his acceptance speech. He had a good Richard Nixon-upper-lip-sweat goin'. Of course, I'd be nervous in his place, too. I'm not sure what he's up to but the stakes are certainly high on every side. (/obvious)

- Some of the folks on my flist are worried that Sylar got Claude because he "disappeared" after talking to (ack, I'm blanking on her name) the FBI agent. Once I restarted my heart... I don't believe it. We didn't watch him disappear, he could just as easily have moved away when she had her back turned (and the camera wasn't on him).

I wondered that - definitely a terrible thought. But I have every faith that Claude will return, and since Sylar can't take powers without killing people, so I think it's a trick to scare us.

Nathan to Hiro: (whispered) "I can't stop it." (whispered even more softly) "But you can."

A wonderful moment - I don't understand it in the least, but I like it.

I think Linderman will return, but then will then be killed for real. No idea what Nakamura is up to, but I suspect he's another one of Linderman's false friends, just waiting for the right opportunity for betrayal - perhaps waiting for Hiro to grow up so he'd have an ally?

I am convinced that Mohinder will manifest a power - maybe to save Molly? - well, if so, he's taking his time about it!

It was a nice surprise, that we were set up to think Nakamura would try to stop Hiro, and that he was on Linderman's side, but it turns out to be not so simple.

I love the way all the characters have their own agenda, good or bad, and you don't always know which way anyone will go in any given decision.

yes, indeed. far more realistic than so many shows, where everyone is good or bad. In this show someone can be good at one point, and bad at another, since their agendas don't always mesh with everyone else's.

I also am intrigued by the older generation. They claim they tried to save the world once too, and failed. And apparently the bomb going off in New York is their solution? Maybe? What do they know and why aren't they sharing it with the new generation? Don't think the kids will listen? Do they fear sharing knowledge will change the situation and make it go out of control?

I still hate Nathan. I think he's more evil than Sylar.

Yup.

I'm not sure what he's up to but the stakes are certainly high on every side.

I like that, and I'm hoping that he has some brilliant plan to double-cross the villains, though I can't think what it would be. I want him to do something to make me like him instead of flip-flopping back and forth. I am also at this point wondering what he's going to do with his fake election win.

The FBI agent's name is Audrey. No, I didn't remember that either, I had to look it up.

I don't believe Sylar got Claude either. We are maybe supposed to believe it, but I think Claude is a lot smarter than to let himself get caught by Sylar.

It seems to be Linderman's solution, but Linderman is crazy. How will blowing up New York help anyone? (Disasters like the Two Towers and New Orleans just seem to have messed up the world more.) I think Nakamura is out to stop Linderman, or maybe it's Thompson and his people he's opposing. Hmm.

What do they know and why aren't they sharing it with the new generation?

They seem to be a cagy bunch. Seems to me that the Thompson crowd, or the Linderman crowd, had them so frightened they were driven underground - Claude being an obvious case where we know how it happened. But current events are bringing them out of hiding, or making them stop pretending to be serving Linderman or Thompson or whoever is behind Thompson.

Do they fear sharing knowledge will change the situation and make it go out of control?

I think they were trying to protect the younger generation until they were old enough to take part in the action. Well... that explanation works better for Claire and Hiro than for Nathan and Peter, but maybe Papa Petrelli was killed because he was going to tell Nathan and/or Peter about what was going on. Maybe he did tell Nathan, and that's why Nathan is so nervous and secretive.

Sometimes I think Nathan is utterly evil and sometimes I think he's so frightened he's hiding behind his fear. It looks as if his only real loyalty is to Peter - which will make it interesting if he and Peter should come into opposition.

I wonder about Nathan's wife. Will she take a role in the action?

I thought he finished with "And no one can" or something along those lines... I thought that was why Hiro got so upset. Hmm... perhaps I misheard. Interesting!

In addition to the great stuff discussed above....

I loved how the legend of Kensei & The Dragon tied into Au Co, Claire, and Molly. Yay for thematic threads! :)

I have a major gripe, though. I realize the show is driven by comic book logic, but damn, the pacing of these last eps. has been whacked. It's like the show's on speed, even by it's usual standards.

Great news! The writers are developing special hiatus eps. next year

I thought it was 'no one can' but I'd have to watch the scene again to be sure. In any case, I don't understand it - is Nathan cowed by Linderman, or does he have a plan? What does he think is happening?

Kensei & The Dragon

Oh, yes, that was delightfully done.

It's like the show's on speed, even by it's usual standards.

True enough. I don't mind, but... they aren't sparing themselves.

he writers are developing special hiatus eps.

Cool! Wonderful!

I don't know... but the ambiguity of Nathan is a large part of what makes him so interesting. I keep waffling on whether I even want to know what motivates him. I fear it will take away from what intrigues me to begin with.

I'm not sure I'm intrigued by Nathan at present. I'd rather know what makes him tick, and know how to take him. As it stands, be too much of a null value.

Interesting questions - though I might add that Mr Muggles is the least of my worries.

They're so right about the power of the actors.
