Heroes: The Hard Part...

I watched the Heroes episode "The Hard Part" this evening.

Loved it. Peter and Hiro were as wonderful as always, and I loved it that Ando was the one who saved Hiro from Sylar. Sylar was fascinating - loved his scenes with his mother. And Claire was great with Peter.

Best scene was the last one, when Claire sees her father and Peter comes face to face with Ted.

I heard people say this was like a filler episode, but I thought the suspense was wonderful throughout. Of course, it didn't answer my many questions... just intensified my curiosity.

Thought it was a chilling scene where Micah tries to escape from Candice, and just kept running back into the same room. She isn't a shape-changer, she's an illusionist. Woo. Very cool. Very scary.

I hope Molly survives.

No problem. I will be very, very sad if we don't see Claude again, or learn a bit more of the "old" history. Molly was adorable but everyone I was watching it yelled immediately that Mohinder's blood held the antibody. And we're not even geneticists. ;)

I love the parallel between Nathan and Syler and the consequences of a pushy mother. I think Sylar actually came off a little better than Nathan because he is clearly insane while Nathan is just dabbling with an insane plan. Still, can you say Mommy issues for everyone?

And, in conclusion, Daddy Bennett wins everything.

Mommy issues. Mommy issues everywhere you look. (Does Hiro have a mother?) Mothers don't do too well in this series, do they? (But that's true of comics in genearl.) The mother who comes off best is probably Niki, and she's not only a crazy killer with a split personality, she's a stripper and an underworld moll.

Yes, Sylar wins - but I'd still rather not meet him in a dark alley.

I've decided what I want to happen at the very beginning of the next episode. Claire, Matt, Ted and HRG are all standing around trying to keep Peter from going boom and suddenly Claude appears and punches Peter!

And I concur, Molly had better survive. The kid is too cute to die!

Re: Moms -- You're forgetting Sandra Bennet. Yes, she has medically dangeous Haitian-induced memory lapses and a dog obsession, but she rules!

Re: Bennet&Claire -- I love how Jack Coleman underplayed their meeting. Bennet is so overcome that all he can say is a quiet "Oh, my." Bennet was almost breathing her in.

I do have a question, though. Bennet told Matt that he missed his wife and family, too. But, he wasn't acting like they were in danger from the Company, just that he missed them. Where are they post-Candace fake out? What does he know?

Re: Mohinder & Molly -- OMG! The cuteness. You just know it's going to be "Four Men & A Baby Tracking System" when they bust her out of Company Labs. It's just a question of whether Matt or Mohinder adopts her. Btw, Molly is the girl Matt telepathically heard whimpering, hiding from Sylar in ep. 2, for those who needed a refresher.

Re: Micah -- That is one brave little boy. He's smart enough to know that Candace is even sicker than his Mommy/Aunt. Btw, how squicked were you by the painting of Micah? The very existence and acceptance of it is proof of how cracked the old man really is.

Re: Sylar's mom -- She's played by Ellen Greene, Audrey, from The Little Shop of Horrors. I've had "Suddenly Seymour" and "Mean Green Mother From Outer Space" in my head since last night.

Re: Peter & Ted -- I realize they're under time constraints, but that meeting seemed contrived, even for a universe driven by prophecy. I mean, Jesus, right next to each other? Peter didn't even try to run. No fight or flight. Claude would be bemused and pissed off by the "poodle."

Molly's cute, but she's smart, too. I like that in a kid. And she isn't taking nonsense from anyone, and she's ready able to tease Mohinder.

I like your scenario with Claude appearing in the nick of time to punch Peter. I'm hoping he will come back suddenly and unexpectedly at a moment of need.

I can't help thinking of the Mr Bennet in Pride and Prejudice and wondering if he inspired the Mr Bennet in Heroes - a benign father figure with a ditzy wife, who understands his favourite daughter and tries to help her.

Oh... oh, wow, yes. I'd never thought about that. Despite reading Pride and Prejudice at the same time my Heroes obsession is building. Wow. XD That's a really interesting idea. There are certainly a lot of similarities.

Mr Bennet, in in Pride and Prejudice, is awesome. He's one of my favourite characters in the book. Partially because in some way, he reminds me of my Dad; my parents aren't together, but if they were, it would definitely be like that. Highly neurotic mum and chilled out, benign (as you said) and sensible dad. Good stuff. XD

I think Heroes is rather carefully written, and not much that's there is happening by accident.

Yes, Mr Bennet is one of my favourite characters in Pride and Prejudice too. Which is probably why I thought of it, though I must admit that since the Keira Knightley movie, I now picture him as Donald Sutherland!

I've seen that movie, but not for a while so I didn't picture him as Sutherland luckily. XD And I didn't even picture Elizabeth as Keira, despite my Keira fanaticism. It's all good.

I thought Keira Knightley and Donald Sutherland were actually both very good in that movie; but I didn't like the direction or the tone. Which was not to say I didn't like it, just that it really wasn't Jane Austen's style.

Are you a fan of that sort of genre as a whole, or just Jane Austen? Because I love the Bronte sisters. Wuthering Heights and Jane Eyre are awesome, too.

That's a tricky quesiton to answer. I am a fan of 19th century novels. (Though there are many I haven't read!) I am definitely a fan of Charlotte Bronte, and Jane Eyre is and always has been one of my favourite books ever. I don't much like Wuthering Heights.

As for Jane Austen... I'm not really a fan, I have strange mixed feelings about her books. I find her writing cold. IT's an intellectualized view of love. All cleverness, not much heart. My favourite of her novels by far is Persuasion, which I find has more sense of romance.

Same here. I read it to nearly the end when I was still in school - year 11 - and then forgot about it for some reason. At the start of university last autumn I was packing what books to bring (always my first job when packing!) and found it again, and finished it just after new year after starting again. Delicious. Jane Eyre is a cool, smart character.

I haven't read anything else by Jane Austen, but I plan to. You think I should make Persuasion the next of hers to read? I have a long list of books to read this year - I've just started on 1984 and the next will be Life of Pi - but it was my aim this year to read all the books I've been recommended and have wanted to read for a long time.

Off topic is always fun. Especially when it's completely irrelevant to the original thread!

Delicious. Jane Eyre is a cool, smart character.

I think all the characters in that book are great, from the grim Rocheester to the bouncy child Adele to the religious-and-ascetic St. John Rivers.

I would recommend "Persuasion", certainly, since I really love the story there, and the theme, and the characters - especially Ann Elliott and Captain Wentworth.

I liked 1984 but it isn't one I'd want to reread. Some scenes and ideas in it have stuck with me forever, though.

Haven't read Life of Pi.

I'm sure there's a way we could make Life of Pi relate to the beginning of the conversation! I like it when topics drift.
