Watching the Doctor Who episode "Boom Town" yesterday, I noticed that in the restaurant in Cardiff, Rose and the Doctor were drinking Ty Nant, in those distinctive blue bottles. Just like Lex Luthor in Smallville.

A small fannish thrill.

Ty Nant *is* Welsh.

Since it is a Welsh mineral water, I'm rather more surprised at Lex drinking it than them (being in Cardiff)!

Well, yes. That's the point. I'm not claiming any grand coincidence, just that I love his sort of detail, linking favourite characters and scenes in my mind. On some level, it's all the same universe.

I wasn't so much surprised, as pleased.

With Lex, it was a sign of esoteric foreign tastes - no ordinary Perrier for him - and coloured glass was a sort of motif of the character, especially in Superman colours of blue, yellow and red.

Ty Nant is available in Ottawa if you know where to look - somewhat more expensive than Canadian water, but the bottles are lovely.

This was indeed cool and fun to see.

I myself have been watching "The Unquiet Dead," and am getting all kinds of interesting thoughts about Gwen of Torchwood in present-day Cardiff, and Gwyneth the girl with second sight in 1869 Cardiff. I do like that episode (I know you've said you don't, not particularly), and will be watching it again, happily.

There's been some interesting fannish speculation about Gwen and Gwyneth, with no real conclusions.

I just don't think the episode does justice to Charles Dickens (though it's wonderful that the Doctor is a fan), and I don't think it's as well written as some of the later ones - and I didn't particularly like Gwyneth. Which is weird because I like Gwen.
