Gorgeous - thanks for posting this. Maybe we should both try to post a lot of beautiful pictures between now and the New Year. Let's fill the blogsphere with beauty!
Yes, isn't Leonardo wonderful? Every time I look at one of his drawings (or paintings) I feel as if I'm looking at something fresh and new and beautiful, with more to discover in it.
There is a funny story regarding Leonardo; as a teenager (I was only ten or eleven)I read his biography and first time I met the word "homosexual" (because he was accused of). I went to the parlor where my family sat (and they were very catholic) and asked what mean this word, they were so confused you can't figure, there was silence and the the question: what the hell are you reading? Haven't you enough books for chlildren? And so on. The problem was I hadn't enogh books of my own,so I read what I found. But the paintings I saw in this book stayed for ever in my mind, and one of them is that picture you've posted.
How to take the grown-ups by surprise! I remember a case in my early teen years - I was doing a role-playing game with my friends and over the phone I referred to one of my friend's characters in the game as a harlot. I suppose we were about 11 or 12, as in your case. My friend was from a very strictly religious Welsh Baptist family. She didn't know the word but instead of asking me - over the phone - what it meant, she turned around and asked her father, who was passing through the room -"What's a harlot?" I was mortified, because I knew he'd know who she was talking to.
I never had enough books either, any by the time I was 12 the adult's books were more interesting and more fun anyway.
I don't remember when I first read about Da Vinci. I do love his art!
