[livejournal.com profile] walkingowl is visiting Ottawa, so we had a friendly, fannish day. We went to brunch at the Arrow & Loon, and went for a walk around the Glebe, shopping. We went back to my place and I forced her to watch both Doctor Who and Torchwood - though, truly, she didn't resist, and if she had, I could have been persuaded to watch other things. We started with watching John Barrowman on the Jonathan Ross show, and it was certainly funny. Is there anything John Barrowman isn't willing to say in public? And yet, for all his outspokenness, he came across as an exceedingly nice person.

In watching Torchwood: Day One again, the line that most struck me was Captain Jack's, when the sex alien died: "You cross the galaxy for great sex, and still you die alone." The application of "you die alone" to himself was clear - he died alone on the game station - but it struck me this time that with the reference to crossing the galaxy for "great sex" he could well be canonically referring to Rose and the Doctor. Subtle enough to be ambiguous (given Jack's adventurous past) but still quite wonderful.

I don't usually watch the news on TV if I can help it, but [livejournal.com profile] walkingowl wanted to see the Rememberance Day ceremonies. I found it quite moving. This is... unusual for me.

I made beef stew for supper, and a carrot-pineapple cake for the apa collation. Collation was fun; Beulah drove me home and told me about her recent visit to Sedona.
