Torchwood: insight into a theme...

There are other things I should be doing, but...

I was talking with femme_slash_fan about Suzie and something she said made me realize a theme that all the episodes of Torchwood so far have in common. I'd better put this under a cut since it contains spoilers... Essentially, the alien menaces in each of the episodes so far have been the same - not the same entities, but they have used the same methods:

Episode 1 Everything Changes: The glove controls Suzie's mind and makes her use the glove to kill
Episode 2 Day One: The sex alien possesses Carys and uses her body to kill; it also uses alien pheromones to control the libido of others
Episode 3 Ghost Machine: The alien device controls whoever is holding it, forcing them to witness scenes from the past or future and experience the emotions depicted
Episode 4 Cyberwoman: The Cyberman mechanism alters Lisa's brain to make her carry out its agenda

In other words, each episode has been about alien attempts to control human minds and actions, usually to the destruction of the human or humans involved.
