An Undone War Still Wages...
Sep. 19th, 2006 10:04 pmNow, I don't watch Stargate Atlantis and normally I'd never read a piece of Stargate Atlantis fanfic. I had to read this one, though, because it was a crossover with Doctor Who, and, even better, featured Captain Jack Harkness. It was An Undone War Still Wages by Cherry Ice.
The Startgate Atlantis bits were over my head, though I could follow the action with no difficulty and mostly remembered what the characters looked like. Despite my ignorance, despite the fact that I felt it was more a Stargate Atlantis story than a Doctor Who story, I enjoyed it very much - good plot, good characterization of Captain Jack, Rose, and the Doctor, and a few fabulously good lines. The first:
"Jack?" McKay asks, and when Jack looks ove,r his mouth snaps shut, compressed to a line.I do enjoy time travel paradoxes.
"McKay," Jack says. "Small galaxy." And this is a problem, this is a big problem, because Jack hasn't met him yet.
And later, over a wounded or dying man:
"You could fix him," Rose says, quiet.
The Doctor closes his eyes. "I can't fix anyone."
Liar, Atlantis says.
