Yesterday Lisa and her family came and picked up Squeaker and took her home. I miss her. Cute little thing. The budgies are good company, but it's nice to have something that will lie in your lap to be petted.

This evening I went to Dairy Queen with [livejournal.com profile] maaseru and [livejournal.com profile] maaboroshi. Beulah came over for a session of potion-making. Did apazine covers, returned library books, picked up my comics for the week - if anyone's interested, I got Claws #1 (Wolverine and th eBlack Cat), Ultimate Fantasic Four Annual #2, Ultimate Fantastic Four #32, X-Men Civil War #2, Iron Man #11, nextwave agents of H.A.T.E. (that's a Warren Ellis title, if you were in any doubt); and Runaways #19, from Marvel. From DC: 52: Week Fifteen, Catwoman #58, CHeckmate #5. Yes, a big week for comics, and I'm still behind on my comics reading.

Tomorrow I have a train to catch at 6 a.m. and I'll be travelling for a few days and so will probably not be posting anything in LJ. See you all when I get back.

You mean you were only Squeaker-sitting? Now you'll have to get one of your own!

Have a good trip! ::hugs::

PS Even though you'll be travelling by train, I thought the icon was appropriate. Hold on tight! ;)

Yeah Dairy Queen!

The one on Bank St., right? I still have fond memories of our trip last May.

Believe me, I'm very tempted to go and get my very own guinea pig. I miss her - and she hasn't been gone that long.

Of course, I can always visit her at Lisa's place.

Nope, only till her family came back from holiday. I offered to keep her, but they didn't go for it.

I might get one of my own. I'm not sure. She was so sweet - I miss her!

Lovely icon! Yes, travel is travel - however you do it. Too bad my train wasn't a Tardis, but no, it was just plan Via Rail.... They have good coffee, though, and they're much more comfortable than the bus.

I was iritated though when the voice woke me from a perfectly good nap to announce we were arriving in Kingston.

Squeaker is certainly missed. I've swept up the hay that strayed into odd corners of the apartment, and I have to fight the impulse to buy more carrots. [livejournal.com profile] maaboroshi took care of my budgies while I was out of town and she gave them millet and seed rather than the health food stuff I give them - I think they want me to leave town again, or at least to appoint [livejournal.com profile] maaboroshi their feeder on a permanent basis.

Aw!
Would the budgies like carrots to peck?

From: [identity profile] fajrdrako.livejournal.com
No. Budgies in general are supposed to like carrots, but my little guys don't believe a word of it. They like green things: lettuce, parsley, celery, bok choy, spinach.... Nothing orange. If I give them turnips or squash or carrots they chirp, "Get that OUT of the cage!" and won't touch it.

Personally, I like carrots.

Silly birds.

Kingston? Not "trial of the Renown's officers for mutiny" Kingston? No, thought not.

You missed two newsworthy items: Malta's government has apparently been infiltrated by Cybus Industries. And I have a new obsession which I'll happily share with you (how generous of me!) if it's new to you. Here (http://rosiespark.livejournal.com/57556.html?nc=16).

PS I love trains! Comes of not having them here, means train travel is this exotic treat associated with trips abroad. :)

Kingston? Not "trial of the Renown's officers for mutiny" Kingston?

I wish it was. I'd love to think it's been where Pellew, Horatio and Archie were. But as far as I know there are no direct trains from Ottawa to Kingston, Jamaica.

Malta's government has been infiltrated by Cybus Industries? Hee. Watch out for those Cybermen. (I am more intrigued by the notion you might have a branch of Torchwood. Watch out for Captain Jack!)

As for the British "Queer As Folk", yup, I love it, esp. Aiden Gillan. I have it on video-tape from when it was shown, in both English and French versions. Absolutely love that show.

I think of train travel as an exotic treat to faraway places, too. And don't often get to take them. They are terrific in Europe. I always think we should have more rail travel here than we do. Going to Stratford by train was wonderfully conventient and comfortable.

They certainly have minds of their own. Colours are important to them. Their food comes in tiny pellets that are red, green and yellow. They always eat the red last, and sometimes not at all. Doesn't it taste as good? I can't tell. But I suspect if there were orange pellets in the mix, they wouldn't eat them, either.

Magnus used to like slices of fresh apple. His regular food was Trill bird-seed, and he had a cuttlefish.

From: [identity profile] fajrdrako.livejournal.com
I think we don't have Trill - that doesn't sound familiar - though I can't remember what the brand name of the food-stuff I get for them is. I used to give them only bird-seed, but Pryde developed a weight problem - cutest thing you ever saw, a plump round budgie - and the vet said to put her on diet food. So. The whole household went on a diet. Both cages have cuttlefish. Daily vegetable... I should try them with apple again. As I recall, last time I tried, they ignored it. But it would do no harm to try again.

I don't think they made diet food in Magnus's day - not that he needed it, he was always a trim, fit boy, although I did once meet a spherical budgie.
I'm not sure what was in Trill; we used to put the left-overs on the garden birds' table, until Dad noticed some strange weeds in the garden, which he promptly removed. I think some of it may have been a variety of hemp!

Hemp - that's pretty cool! No wonder the little guys like their seed so much. I'e thrown out the package, but I'm not sure whether it even says specifically what's in the "budgie seed" bag.

I was throwing the birds' leftovers out the window for the sparrows, but lately there've been jackhammers, workmen and their equipment (working on the balconies above my apartment) so the birds don't come by.

No wonder they always seem carefree and happy!

On the other hand, given the mythology, the concept of Budgie 'Assassins' would be faintly disturbing...

I'm sure they like mountaintops. Hmm. Maybe it's a good idea to keep the cages shut at night, and keep sharp objects away. I named them after Kitty Pryde and Remy Lebeau, not Elektra and Deadpool!
