I think it was quite crude. The supposedly real male answer were so extreme! 'I feel sick with the tought of people visiting me' it sounds like they hold with the idea that masculinity is a form of autism.

I actually think I score higher on the female side than I would have when in my younger (say teenage) years. I've tought myself some social skills and at the same time I lost a certain type of monomanic interests in facts. I used to be able to immerge me in any research no matter what, just for the intellectual stimulance. I have lost that capacity, research is a strugle. (oh, what does it say about my assumption concerning male and female that I classify that type of behaviour as male?)

Masculinity as autism - ! that puts a whole new perspective on sexism.

I think gender traits (especially the extreme versions) are usually overestimated.

If I had to predict your results, too - ! But then, as with dargie and her friends, everyone seems to be coming out 'either' or 'neither' which to my mind simply means that the quiz is out to lunch. Or just too narrow in its male/female descriptors.

On the other hand, I am certainly bisexual and slightly androgynous and frequently indecisive - so it must be right about something! Interesting, though, that the quiz thought I was more male than female in my thinking, and that's ridiculous.

You think men are better at research, or are more into intensive work? Hmm. I think that's a trait men and women have about equally, but I wouldn't know how to prove it, or even to measure it. I suppose one could count statistically the number of men and women in research positions, but then, that would be skewed by socio-economic factors - as far as I know, world-wide, men still get the better jobs.

no, I don't think men are more into research than men (let alone that men are, by virtue of their biology better at it). I do think though that there is the perception that a certain type of research attitude (what I would call 'monomanic', a nerd type of way of loosing oneself in laboratory giving it precedence over social life to an extreme). I have the impression this quiz takes for the difference of this quiz mainly the sociabillity scale, female = social, male = unsocial. There is a (more or less serious) theory that autism is an extreme form of what are considered 'normal male features'.

And what about the correlation between female/mal biology and their respective "brain types" I would guess that it is a question of statistics and also that no brain is totally male or female. (It might be better not to use the words male and female in these, but more neutral ones.)

Oh and BTW, saying that there might be difference in the brains doesn't necessarily mean that social context has no influence. I believe the brain holds potentials and the emotional/social/environmental input influences the development of the brain.

Although I look feminine, I tend to think of myself as not very much so. (Indeed, I have been know to say that while a degree of effeminacy - by which I mean studiedly 'feminine' behaviour - can be charming in a man, in a woman it's contemptible!)

I find women generally physically more beautiful than men, but it's more of an aesthetic response. I love to look at beauty, male or female. Sex always struck me as a somewhat ridiculous and undignified exercise, not something I particularly wanted to try.

I identify as emotionally-bi-but-physically-a. I value reason and intellect above gut-feeling, and it disturbs me that people regard that as a gender-related thing: to me, it suggests a major flaw in socialisation/education, as I think the ability to think and use reason is vital for civilised discourse.

I'm not remotely maternal and bad at nurture: my plants tend to die of neglect, so it's probably a good job I can't keep pets. Children alarm me: I was bullied for years at school, and when I'm among children, I feel threatened. However, I like to indulge in rescue and h/c thoughts about my historical and literary favourites.

I think the brain is always rewriting itself, partly because of environment, learning, and choices made. I don't think men are less social than women but they do often express it differently... And if it's all brain chemistry, then it's brain chemistry affected by hormones, and that indicates gender differentiation. So that would imply that there are balances and imbalances, and we could call them yin and yang or black and white or male and female... Presumably a more balance brain is a better brain, or is that a misconception on my part?

I tend to think of myself as fairly androgynous, but I'm not sure if I come across that way. Certainly people treat me as fully female, and I like that. I'm certainly happy to be female and wouldn't want to be male, for any number of reasons, most of which I think have to do with hormones and brain chemistry.

That, I have trouble understanding - I mean, I understand what your saying, but my reaction is the polar opposite. "Undiginfied" doesn't come into it, sex is glorious.

Hmm. I value both, I think. Balance, again. Do I value them equally? Depends on circumstances and context. Emotional responsives can be stupid and destructive, but instinctive or intuitive responses can be more reliable than reason for some decisions.

I certainly agree with that. And I'm not sure if it's men or women get the worst position out of this: I think men are encouraged to be rude, crude and aggressive; while women are encouraged to be sentimental or too accepting. Neither extreme is good.

My plants die too. (Pause for a guilty thought about the state of the big plant by the bird-cages. It might be time to send it off to a better home, perhaps a graveyard.) I don't like children en masse but I like many of them individually - which is precisely my attitude to adults.
