I did the well-nigh impossible today. I sorted and filed all the papers that I hadn't sorted or filed in the past year and a bit. Amazing what I found. And - good news - I finally got up the nerve to check the balance in my chequing account and it was considerably more than I thought or feared it would be. For a change. Whew.

And I started the day with a full hour of yoga, using a tape I got from the library. Felt good. In fact, I felt considerably better today than I have in weeks. Is it because it's suddenly less hot? Or because of the yoga? Or just random chance? Just in case... I'm doing yoga tomorrow, too.

Read Daredevil #86. I'm loving Brubaker's run. Love the way Matt is encountering these villains from his past - I particularly got a kick out of seeing Turk again. There was a line about Bullseye that made me shiver.

I like the way you spell "checking"!

Do you? It comes naturally to me... You check to see if your cheques are in order!

I love hate you and your icons! They keep me from getting anything done! :D

Yoga when you need it is amazing. It's like... coming out from under a heavy blanket.

weather, I find it amazing how everyone is constantly ging on about it. At times when I am depressed and the weather becomes sunnier people immediately assume I will be cheerfull again. And now it is by common descicion 'too hot' (above 30 degrees Celsius) and people assume I will be depressed due to the heat.
I quite like the temperature, but not some much the harshness of the rays. I put on a sun cap and sunglasses, long sleeved shirts and I can handle it fine.

What are the temperatures at your end of the globe? Are you experience it as abnormal?

My icons keep me from getting anything done, too. There are such wonderful icons out there.

Yes, yoga is wonderful. I'm about to start today's session... just a little stiff in the legs from yesterday.

Yes, that's what I tend to do. I don't like the heat because it makes me tired, and makes it harder to do things - rather like the intense cold in January.

If heat and cold (or darkness and light) have much effect on my mood, I can't notice it.

Ottawa tends to be way too cold in winter (by which I mean -30C and colder, with wind chill) and too hot and humid in July - like +30C and humid. I prefer temperatures between 10C and 20C, personally. And we get some of those in spring and autumn, too.

I think we're already starting to get the cool evenings that usually come in August - it was lovely and cool yesterday evening.

Weather: Canadians love to talk about it.

I cannot manage cold well. Also, in the winter overhere most days tend to be overcast. The lack of light can get to me. With warm weather I can be cheerfull or depressed. I can enjoy warm weather though, working in the gardem or cycling (but I need to rest afterwards) it can give me a feeling of exhiliration. But yes, I also know the feeling of lack of energy.

I think people in general love to talk about it. Or are there people who live at places with such uniform weather that it makes no sense (oh did you notice the weather, exactly the same as yesterday and the day before and the day before and the day you were born)

It's hard for me to imagine places where the weather is always the same - Ottawa weather seems to change all the time. Not as much as British weather does, though.

It's not overcast today - sunny and cool this morning, beautiful. I might go for a walk, if it isn't hot already by the time I finish yoga.

I think you'd have to vision life in a Dome of some sort, artificial climate to get real uniform weather. Even on the equator there are surely differences (cynical not: how else could they have droughts?). But I guess the designers of the dome would take into account human need for a bit of variation (assuming the dome is designed with humans in mind)

I'm not sure what Dome weather would be like - I suppose it depends on the size of the Dome. Even in large buildings now, we get weather effects. Not maybe so severe.... If controlable, it would probably be like living indoors. If not - it might have interesting effects.

I suppose if it isn't completely under control, there's be no point to a Dome anyway. And unless it was a prison, people could always go outside the Dome for their weather effects.

I would suspect that a person's weather needs are as variable as anything else in individuals. Hard to make it perfect for everyone, then.

that depends. It might be on a non-earth situation. (or an earth so different do to severe climate change or pollution)

True, it all depends on the external environment. If it were a space station, for example, there would be no easly accessible 'outside'. And it would have to be controllable down to tiny details. Perhaps they could have different areas - like wings of a building - for each of the seasons?

it is a very difficult thing though, to make a dome where you not even aim to control the climate, but 'just' seal it of. Maybe you remember the Biospher2 project that was supposed to give a miniature duplicate of earth's climate. It was so=upposed to be totally independent from influences of the outsode, but it was one of the things that failed in it.

Thanks for the link!

The environment - whether it's a null environment or a fierce one - will surely have an effect on everything, starting with the possible size and composition of the dome. Everything has context.

But it seems to me that it's a kind of research worth pursuing, especially with the floods, hurricanes and tsunamis that global warming is bringing us.

yes, I agree it is worth pursuing. And if the project seems naive and showy in a sense and people laughed afterwards about the many things that with wrong with it, it is good to keep in mind that these selfsame people had not managed to predict these error in advance. (at least, certainly not to a significant extent). One of the things I remember reading about is that the groundfloor had not been made impenetrable. Not because of lazyness, but because noone realized how many extremely tiny particles can penetrate trough supposedly impenetrable stuff and how many tiny thingies can nevertheless influence an ecology. So much interaction that escapes our perception.
I do hope ineteraction and interdepence will become more central in our practice of the sciences. I believe it may well become crucial.

It's true - look how hard it is to insulate a normal house. And there are always logistics of ventilation to deal with - even in a closed environment, it's necessary to have good air to breathe.

Thanks for the other link too.
