I got this from [livejournal.com profile] renka54 and [livejournal.com profile] dargie.

100 Things about me....

1. ONE OF YOUR SCARS, HOW DID YOU GET IT? -- I have scars over a large part of my body, from having had scleroderma as a child. I was lucky in that when I am clothed, most of the scars aren't very noticeable. Further scars would be irrelevant.

2. WHAT IS ON THE WALLS IN YOUR ROOM? -- In my living room: A linen print of a scene from the Bayeux Tapestry; an etching of a flute-player carved in the ceiling of Roslyn Chapel; a linen print of celtic seahorses, entwined; a brass rubbing of St. George and the dragon, c. 17th century; a fantasy sketch of a sphinx (with a thoughtful expression) and an Egyptian temple by my friend Arden; a "Trees" calendar, turned - just now - to July; a picture of Rameses; a Japanese picture of a crane; a beautiful needlepoint of La Dame a la Licorne; a beautiful hooked rug portrait of a panda eating bamboo; two calligraphed passages from Tolkien; a photo of the Great Pyramid in a storm; a printed motto that says "Life is an adventure, or it is nothing"; a framed photo of Tom Welling as Clark Kent; a piece of Clex fan-art by Suzann Lovatt; two mounted posters from The Lord of the Rings, one showing the Argonath, the other showing a close-up of Aragorn's face; a plaster relief of three saints from the North Portal of Notre-Dame Cathedral; a water-colour picture of the Old Man of Hoy; and a print of an 18th century painting showing a woman playing a harp.

In the hallway: A mounted action figure of Batman and one of Gambit climbing in a Sentinel hand; an original portrait of Gambit by [livejournal.com profile] maaboroshi.

In the bathroom: A picture of Captain Jack Harkness; a picture of Rose and Nine; a picture of Rose and Ten; a picture of Ten with the Head of Boe; and the 2006 Doctor Who Calendar, still showing June.

In the bedroom: A large mounted photograph of Bodie; a large mounted photograph of Doyle; a Persian print of a phoenix, given to me by Aunt Isie; a reproduciton of Egyptian hieroglyphs in stone; a print of the Chinese character for 'chaos'; an old Japanese print of two sparrows.

11. DO YOU GET SCARED OF THE DARK? -- Only in deep caves.

14. WHAT KIND OF HAIR DO YOU LIKE ON THE OPPOSITE SEX? -- Long and dark. (What about the same sex? The answer would be: Short and dark.)

15. WHERE CAN YOU SEE YOURSELF BEING PROPOSED TO AT? -- Huh? Been there, done that, not necessarily happy memories. Let's not go there.

16. COFFEE OR ENERGY DRINKS? -- Decaff coffee, with milk.

17. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PIZZA TOPPING? -- Pepperoni, green peppers, mushrooms. I also like Hawaiian. I also like specialty pizzas with no tomatoes, goat's cheese, and European vegetables. The only pizza ingredient I dislike is onions.

19. WHO IS THE LAST PERSON YOU MADE MAD? -- Uh...

20. DO YOU SPEAK A DIFFERENT LANGUAGE? -- French, Esperanto. I can read Latin (at least to a certain extent) but I can't speak it. My Italian is rusty, I'd need a bit of practice tobe able to hold conversations again. I read but don't speak various medieval languages like Anglo-Norman and Old French.

21. WHAT WAS THE FIRST GIFT SOMEONE EVER GAVE YOU (OF THE OPPOSITE SEX): -- No idea. Not memorable.

22. DO YOU LIKE ANYBODY? -- What does that mean? I like humanity. I don't like all individuals. I try to be tolerant, fair, and polite to everyone, but there are some people I just don't click with and others who are total scum.

24. FAVORITE CLOTHING BRAND? -- Does clothing have brands? I thought that was cattle.

41. WHY DID YOU FILL OUT THIS SURVEY? -- I enjoy the reflection it entails.

42. WHAT DO YOU GET COMPLIMENTED ABOUT MOST? -- No idea. My cooking? When you feed people, they tend to compliment it and thank you.

43. WHAT WOULD YOU DO IF ALCOHOL BECAME ILLEGAL? -- Huh? Why would it? The world is going the other way - towards legalizing illegal drugs. If alcohol became illegal, it wouldn't affect me much at all - though I suppose I might start drinking more sometimes. There's something romantic about the notion of a speakeasy.

44. WHAT DO YOU WANT FOR YOUR BIRTHDAY? -- Books, mostly. I always like getting calendars, and fannish things. I'd like a mug with a portrait of the Ninth Doctor Who on it. Or the Tenth. And maybe another one with a picture of Captain Jack Harkness.

45. HOW MANY KIDS DO YOU WANT? -- None now. There was a time I wanted one very badly. Time changes everything.

54. IF YOU WERE ANOTHER PERSON, WOULD YOU BE FRIENDS WITH YOU? -- Of course.

55. HAVE YOU EVER TOLD A SECRET YOU SWORE NOT TO TELL? -- No. I value discretion rather highly. I would not want anyone to betray my secrets, so I would never do it to someone else.

56. DO LOOKS MATTER? -- Yes, though probably not in the way the question would normally imply. I believe that a person's personality is reflected in their looks.

57. HOW DO YOU RELEASE ANGER? -- A complex question with a complex answer.

58. WHERE IS YOUR SECOND HOME? -- Why would I have a second home? I can only live in one place at a time.

59. DO YOU TRUST OTHERS EASILY? -- No. But I don't distrust easily either. I let people show me, with time, whether they are trustworthy or not, and in what ways. Some of my dearest friends can't keep a secret, or lose borrowed books, or show up late, or forget conversations. Everyone is trustworthy in some ways, untrustworthy in others.

60. WHAT WAS YOUR FAVORITE TOY AS A CHILD? -- Depends on the age. My "King Arthur" Ken doll was a favourite at 9. At 5 or 6, my bow and arrow.

64. HAVE YOU EVER BEEN IN A MOSH PIT? -- No.

65. WHAT DO YOU LOOK FOR IN A GUY? -- What a heterosexist question. I look for the same things in men and women: friendliness, honesty, emotional courage, kindness, intelligence, curiosity - the traits I value and try to cultivate in myself. I like people who can surprise me, in a good way. I look for the company of people who enjoy good conversations.

66. WHAT ARE YOUR NICKNAMES? -- I have spent the whole of my life trying to persuade everyone I know to call me Elizabeth. Yeah, it's my name. Funny how rarely I get it. Usually Lizzie (which I quite like, though people tend to assume I won't), Liz, or Eliz (which I sometimes call myself). There are certain forms of the name which I will not mention which I don't like at all.

68. DO YOU UN-TIE YOUR SHOES WHEN YOU TAKE THEM OFF? -- Yes. Reluctantly. So they will last longer. Economic constraint.

78. LAST PERSON YOU TALKED TO ON THE PHONE? -- Lyn.

79. THE FIRST THING YOU NOTICE IN THE OPPOSITE SEX? -- Voice, if they speak to me. Otherwise, the expression on their faces. (I don't much like the phrase 'the opposite sex', I might add. it sets up an artificial difference. I like to think of people as people, regardless of gender.)

80. FAVORITE THOUGHT PROVOKING SONG? -- "Imagine" by John Lennon. I'm reading "The End of Faith" by Sam Harris and that song keeps coming to mind: "Imagine there's no heaven..."

81. FAVORITE THING TO HATE -- Fear.

83. FAVORITE ZODIAC SIGN -- Libra.

84. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE SPORT? -- Fencing. Figure skating. European football.

97. WHO IS THE MOST LIKELY TO ANSWER THESE QUESTIONs? -- How should I know? Besides me, of course.

98. WHO IS THE LEAST LIKELY TO ANSWER THESE QUESTIONS? -- [livejournal.com profile] maaboroshi, who has forgotten she ever had an LJ and hasn't updated it in years. I think she forgot her password.

99. WHAT BOOKS ARE YOU READING? -- "The End of Faith" by Sam Harris. "The Oxford Concise History of the Crusades" by Jonathan Riley-Smith. "S is for Silence" by Sue Grafton. And as soon as I finish one of those, "The King of Attolia" by Megan Whelan Turner, which just came in for me at the library and which I'm dying to read. Also the comic books that have come out the past couple of weeks, now piling up beside my bed. Including a few borrowed from Lyn.

100. IS ANYONE IN LOVE WITH YOU? -- I wish.
