I have barely even found this fandom and I'm sure it's all old hat to anyone who's been following Doctor Who for more than about ten minutes, but I was charmed by this quote from John Barrowman in an interview by Paul McIntyre about his role:
Captain Jack Harkness however isn't your average Doctor Who companion. Not only does he fancy the Doctor's comely assistant, Rose Tyler, he also fancies the Doctor. This sexual ambiguity further attracted John Barrowman to his new role.

"We have to change with the times and there are so many people in the world today - straight, gay, bisexual - all productive human beings with something to contribute to the world, so why not as a companion of Doctor Who?", he told Paul McIntyre, producer with ABC Tasmania's Morning Show.

That sounds so sensible to me. Why don't other TV producers have this attitude?

I fell in love with Captain Jack immediately. I am so very happy to see them be realistic about sexual roles, portraying a strong and sexy man as not afraid to be open about his sexuality. About damn time.

About damn time indeed! Now, I haven't seen the man yet, except in pictures, but it seems to me this is the way characters (and people) ought to be.

It makes me admire the show even more.

even better the Doctor (Ecclestone)did give the impression to be aware and not negative about the possibility.

Note, captain Jack will get his own show, at the end of this year (more details yet unknown). We won't be able to receive it (it's on BBC3) so I will have to download it.

Yes; even better.

There is talk that the CBC may be picking up Torchwood but when I wrote to them on Friday they gave a nondescript reply that they had no information about it at this time. I live in hope. They aired the Ecclestone episodes of Doctor Who but the second season (Tennant episodes) have yet to be shown in Canada.

I haven't even seen Captain Jack yet, but I approve in principal.

I doubt Torchwood will be broadcasted on Dutch telly any time soon. Neither of the two new Dr. Who's have been on yet. We do receive BBC1 and BBC2 on cable but not BBC3. I will try to download Torchwood with a bit torrent client. Don't you do that on principle? Or otherwise uncomfortable with it?

I have no problem with downloading - but I'm not very technically adept, and my computer isn't really powerful enough to allow me to do other things while I do that, and it takes a lot of time. Besides which, I can watch things in more comfort on video-tape or DVD, so I find it preferable if possible - but certainly not the only way to get things.

I still haven't found Doctor Who season 2, episodes 3 and 4 online yet. I'm searching.

season 2, you mean the recent seasons and not the originals I take it. Episode 3 is 'school reunion' - I had it in my mind you had seen that one. I can have a look for you and sent it directly.

Yes. I saw "School Reunion" in Montreal at the MonSFFA meeting, but I don't have a copy of my own.
