Got this one from [livejournal.com profile] sparklebutch and had to give it a try. My answer to most of the questions was "huh?" but I answered as best I could, considering that I am not a dyke per se but a hot bi babe of maturing years. Yes, it turns out I'm a

I had sort of thought the word "Bohemian" went out before World War II. Guess I was wrong. Of course I'd rather be the femme fatale, but I'm not.

Note: I see the Wordsmith dictionary defines 'dyke' as "offensive slang". Everyone I know uses it as inoffensive slang. But then... I know the line between 'offensive' and 'inoffensive' can be thin.

Suspect that "dyke" is still a bit close to reclaimed to be wholly inoffensive. As with many things of this nature, much depends on who says it and how they mean it.

I don't think 'dyke' is actually a word I've ever used... and under the circumstances that's probably just as well. But I never think twice when someone else uses it.

I have, and "queer" as well, but in the more current sense where it's used about people who self-identify with those words. I'm a big believer in reclaiming language as well as giving it free reign to evolve.

A very sensible way to handle it, in my opinion.

Everyone I know uses it too, but then most everyone I know are either dykes, or dyke-friendly, or bi, or queer in one of many ways. Even the het people are all queer. And I don't really know any homophobic idiots, therefore the people who might use it offensively are not heard by me or my loved ones.

My friends are are the same, or if they aren't, they're too polite to say anything different in my company! But really, yes, I have the utmost faith in the sympathies of al my friends. They just wouldn't be homophobic. Sometimes they might be heterocentric though thoughtlessness - but not even often that.(And I point it out to them!)
