Musing on a Smallville/Lost parallel...
Mar. 31st, 2005 07:45 pmIt strikes me that the 'mother' theme in Lost's "Deus Ex Machina" has an awful lot of similarity to the similar scenes in Smallville's "Lineage".
In both shows, a protagonist who has never met his biological parents is stalked by an unfamiliar older woman with red hair, who seems rather strange. In each case, the protagonist corners and confronts the woman, who then says she is his mother. Both mothers are recently released from mental institutions. In each case, the father is wealthy, powerful, charming, unscrupulous and manipulative.
I wonder if the writers of Lost watch Smallville.

How could they resist? Lost is an excellent show in my opinion. All right, I haven't seen a full episode yet, but any show that can leave me wide-eyed and breathless after just a scene is a good show.
And on another topic, I was on the subway today, and when the train stopped at Charles, I was hit by a wave of missing you. I almost got off the train and walked to your hotel, but you wouldn't have been there. I missed you when we ate at The Elephant Walk Monday night too. The elephant on the wall missed you too. I'm sure of it. I'm so glad that I got the chance to meet you. :-D

Date: 2005-04-01 01:28 am (UTC)Lost is strange but wonderful. I love the way it can be both funny and scary, and the way it keeps pulling suprises. I like it's twists of near-irrationality, sort of like X-Files.
And the suspense builds.
