A living environment...
Oct. 9th, 2004 06:51 pmA week ago someone left a carpet in the basement trash room.
Now, it has been distressing me for some time that my living room carpet is dirty. It's a beautiful carpet and I love it but time and traffic has made some of the white parts grey and it just doesn't look as good as it did when I first got it. It wasn't new then but the previous owner was a beautiful housekeeper and it was a beautifully clean carpet.
So how do I get it cleaned? It costs a lot of money to have someone come in to do it. I dont' have a car to take it anywhere. It's too big for me to carry or stuff into a taxi. When I saw the carpet downstairs I saw a temporary solution - or at least a bit of incentive. The carpet someone else had trashed looked better than the one on my floor. I nabbed it.
So today I moved a lot of furniture and took up the old carpet and put down the replacement. I moved around all the furniture. Funny thing is, though the room looks good now and I like the change.... Everything didn't fit in as well afterwards. I can't think why. It's as if the furniture arrangement I had before was some sort of space-usage optimum.
Well, that's okay, I like it the way it is now, too. I just need to figure out where to put a few things that now don't have a place, like the TV trays and the boxes of magazines - which probably should be pitched but I want to go through them again first. This weekend? Yeah, this weekend. Or not. Time to do a few more scrapbook pages, maybe.
There are a lot of things I really like now. The harp isn't hidden in a corner, but is more visible, in all its beauty. The birds are closer to the windows, which they like - though not closer to each other, which they prefer. Will this make them more quiet? I doubt it.
And the place will look good for the Thanksgiving lunch we're having on Monday.
