Jan. 16th, 2013 09:46 pm- Went to a new eye doctor, Dr. Ella Ross, to have my eyes checked out for dryness. Remember how happy I was after my doctor's appointment on Monday? Well, this one was a bust. The technician gave me some eye tests, and asked if I had any allergies to medicines. I explained how I had gone into convulsions when given eye drops by eye doctors - on three or four different occasions over a span of twenty-some years, the first time being when I was ten years old.
Dr. Ross said she really couldn't examine my eyes without the drops. I asked if she could examine my eyes if I had convulsions. "No," she said. She said she didn't see how the drops could trigger epilepsy, and that she had never heard of such a thing; the drops were harmless. I said that the doctors had always said that to me, which is why I'd let them use the drops after the first time - believing their assurances that nothing would happen.
So she couldn't examine me. Worse, she said my eye was 'tight' and explained that this might predispose me to glaucoma, and that there was a simple laser surgery that could be done to fix it and prevent glaucoma - but not without eye drops to freeze the eyes.
Well, I just didn't feel like having convulsions today. So I left, feeling rather like a bad patient. But I didn't want to risk what looks to me like the certainty of having a seizure. I'll just have to hope for the best on my eye health.... She did recommend a certain type of eye drop called Systane Balance, gave me a sample bottle, and told me to use the drop five times a day. Five times! I was using drops twice a day, and thought that was a lot. - Met
fairestcat at the Silver Snail, where we got this week's comics, and then went to Kelsey's for lunch. I had a hamburger and broccoli-cheese soup; very good. And fun reading the comics, which were particularly good this week, I thought. I really liked the art of David Marquez on All-Men X-Men #6 - he was new to me. Conversely, I didn't much like the art of Felipe Andrade on Captain Marvel #9 - though the story was terrific and the layouts excellent. I continue to be astounded how much I'm enjoying Mark Waid's writing in Indestructible Hulk - when I usually find his stories dreadfully uninspired.
- Went to Chapters twice: once with
fairestcat and once with
maaseru. Love browsing. Took a lot of notes on books to see if the library is getting them.
- Feeding my Bond obsession: saw a few minutes of Skyfall at Pim's place when we went there to deliver guinea pig treats, and I just happened to be sitting in Kelsey's right beside a big poster with pictures of Sean Connery as Bond. Too bad it wasn't Daniel Craig, but it made me smile, anyway.
