Venom: Dark Origin

Venom: Dark Origin by Zeb Wells and Angel Medina sets out to give us the 'true origin' of Venom. Which it does... sort of.
It still wasn't quite what I wanted to read, which was the story of how Mac Gugan became Venom. I'm still looking for that. This is the story of Eddie Brock, unheroic loser, who was happy to sell his soul (and his body, too) to the evil alien Venom in return for a little success, a little recognition, a little appreciation. Too bad Eddie was a liar and a cheat.
And we, we do get a sort of origin of Venom, on an alien planet where he possesses a little furry guy rather like a guinea pig. Back in the good old days of predators on alien planets.
Not a bad read, really, especially in its characterization of the unhappy and hopeless Eddie Brock. The best parts were the brief appearances of Spider-Man, who tries to fix Eddie's life and save him from Venom's control. But... poor Eddie. There's no fixing him.
Here, Angel Medina did the murkiest cover picture ever.
