I went to work today. Walked all the way. My office has been moved into [livejournal.com profile] gamergrrl's office for the duration of the renovations. I settled in a bit, but didn't get much effective work done, and after a couple of hours my boss said, "You're getting tired. Go home." I was afraid they'd think I was slacking, not coming in, but no.

My stomach didn't feel very good.

I didn't go right home; I went to the library to pick up a two books they were holding for me, then went to buy bread at the Wild Oat, forgetting that the bus turns on Holmwood now and I'd have to walk the rest of the way home if I bought bread. But I wanted bread. I'd finished what I had, and had a yen for a tomato sandwich made from the fresh tomatoes I'd bought at the Farmer's Market on Sunday. It was very satisfying.

Then I crawled into bed and slept. Read a bit. It was disappointing to not feel as good as I did last night, but after the nap, and after supper, and after spending time with my friends, and after watching White Collar, I felt better.

Interesting article about teens linked on the Bujold list today.

I've always thought we treated teen-agers very badly in our society. Second-class citizens. No wonder they're so often unhappy.

Booking Through Thursday for August 4, 2011: What’s the last book you were really EXCITED to read?
And, were you excited about it in advance? Or did the excitement bloom while you were reading it?
Are there any books you’re excited about right NOW?

It's a little embarrassing to admit, but I'm actually excited about almost every book I start, when I start it. It's either the excitement of discovering a new author, or of having something new from a wonderful favourite writer, or something new I want to learn. Sometimes the book turns out to be a dud, sometimes I'm disappointed, but that doesn't stop me from feeling that moment of thrill each time I start a new book. Even when it's a book I've read before, there's that frisson of anticipation: will I love it as much as I did the last time?

Recent books that have excited me particularly:

    1. A Dance With Dragons by George R.R. Martin, because I've been hanging on the cliffhangers from A Storm of Swords and A Feast for Crows for six years now.

    2. Jump! by Jilly Cooper. I haven't read one of her books in a very long time; I was reminded why I once enjoyed them so much.

    3. Thor: The World Eaters by Matt Fraction and Pasqual Ferry.
