I went downtown today, to the National Gallery. It was a hot but beautiful day.

Maybe because I was looking at paintings and thinking visually, I started looking at Ottawa as if it, too, were a piece of art. And looking particularly beautiful. So I started taking photos the way a tourist might, right there in the middle of the city, where all the good tourist attractions are.

And here they are:

You saw my pictures of Ottawa today. A lovely, sunny, hot day.

I went to see Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2 at the World Exchange Plaza. When we left the cinema a few hours later, we saw it had been raining.

Then we discovered that the lights were out all over the nortern half of the Glebe. Luckily, my place was okay.

Then [livejournal.com profile] maaseru, Pim and Ysabelle tell me that they saw a dramatic lightning storm over the centre of the city, and that the saw lightning hit a transformer, and saw it explode.

Seems the storm did more than that; I just saw [personal profile] fairestcat's post about what happened at Bluesfest. It's even on YouTube.

And there we were, oblivious in the theatre. The movie was full of explosions; if we'd heard thunder, we'd have just thought the sound system was unusually good.

What a bizarre thing to happen.
