- My first of the first French classes I signed up for in July. We talked about the environment, nuclear energy, fuel sources, and various news items relating to this. I learned that "carbon footprint" is empreinte carbone or empreinte écologique, tout juste is the same as à peine, and a wind turbine is éolienne - a lovely word.
- Visited
maaseru with Pim, and saw a bit of Independence Day, which looks even sillier than it did when it first came out.
- Met Lynne at Bridgehead for coffee, and had their chai glacé.
- Had another picnic by the duck pond for lunch. This time, I scattered some leftover bird seed on the rocks and lawn, courtesy of the Little Feathered Guys. A redwing blackbird living in the tree I was sitting under found it, quite happily.
- A nice day, but I find the heat saps my energy. I must remember to wear a hat if it's sunny and hot again tomorrow.
'Magic Slays' by Ilona Andrews
Jul. 4th, 2011 10:25 pmToday I finished reading Magic Slays, the latest in the Kate Daniels series by Ilona Andews.
Loved it as much as the others, maybe more. I particularly loved the romance theme. And the story is getting very tense indeed.... I imagine we are gearing up for a confrontation between Kate and Roland. Hmm.
My favourite paragraph:
I took a shower, got dressed, got a sandwich, and went down the stairs, eating it on the way. No shapeshifters assaulted me a tried to take my food. No wolf alphas sprung any surprise attacks. Nobody even offered me a bouquet of headless roses. The lack of drama was downright disheartening.
I'd love to see a TV miniseries based on these books.
