I was just saying that I thought Steven Moffat would not bring Captain Jack back to Doctor Who, that he'd abandoned the character to Russel T Davies for Torchwood, and no sooner did I say that than Moffat gave an interview saying I'm wrong: Steven Moffat wants John Barrowman back on Doctor Who.

A headline that should give me hope. But you know what? I don't believe him.

For one thing, he's had two seasons to bring Jack back, or even mention him, and there's been nothing. So now Torchwood series 4 is being filmed he can't bring Jack back because John Barrowman is busy? Rubbish. This series of Torchwood isn't timed to go on forever. Barrowman has already said he would be on Doctor Who at any opportunity. If Moffat is waiting for Barrowman to be idle and free, well then, we've got till hell freezes over, because John Barrowman is always busy. And he'd be only too happy to have Doctor Who making him just a little bit more busy.

If Captain Jack was back on the show and Eleven was nice to him (interpret that how you will), I think my love of the show would be revived, and I'd be much happier with Matt Smith. A kiss? Can I have another Captain/Doctor kiss? Is that asking too much? Yes, of course it is. But it's what I want. Or even just a friendly familiarity between them that would allow such thing.

I thought the rest of the article belied the headline. Sure, Moffat is vaguely and theoretical willing to have anyone back from the Doctor's past, including Jack, but he hasn't showed himself particularly inclined to build on the RTD background or characters so far. He doesn't sound enthusiastic about it. He has already been quoted as saying he has ideas of his own to pursue. So he's pursuing them.

No, this really doesn't raise my hopes. But it does reopen a possibility.
