Morning: read fanfic, both Torchwood (both Jack/Doctor and Jack/Ianto) and Supernatural (Dean/Castiel). As usual, I was amazed by it all. Other fans watch the same shows with the same text as I do. How do they come to such different approaches, such different characterization? Sometimes their imagination delights me. Sometimes it just seems bizarre. Not just "how could they write Captain Jack like that?" but "why would they want to?"

The best story by far was the Supernatural fic, Pied Beauty by Fay Jay. A wonderful story. Wonderful on many levels: language use, conceptualization, and character.

Visited [livejournal.com profile] explodedteabag for coffee.

I did a lot of housework: put down the new bedroom rug, cleaned up the place generally. Listened to Terry Pratchett's Pyramids while doing it, enjoying it thoroughly.

[livejournal.com profile] auriaephiala and [personal profile] random came over for supper and to watch Leverage. [personal profile] random brought a wonderful dish involving cooked pork and white beans, with garlic and cinnamon. I made chicken crèpes - satisfying the crèpe urge that has been with me since I went to the Village Inn and got crèpes that were good except that they were spoiled by the inclusion of honey in the recipe. Was that so necessary?

Leverage. We watched:
  • "The Stork Job", which, confusingly, is either episode 1x06 (as aired) or 1x09 (as listed in the DVD box). I liked it very much; especially Parker's role.
  • "The Beantown Bailout Job" 2x01. A more standard caper (turning the mob inside out), though I liked the invasion of Nate's place and the move to Boston.
  • "The Tap-Out Job". Good use of Eliot in this one. I find that as I watch, I come to like each of them more and more. I also like the fight-sport background in this one.
  • "The Order 23 Job" - silly title, though I liked the plot. Shenanigans in a hospital; always fun. My suspension of disbelief couldn't really handle the idea of a hospital having and empty floor, but what do I know? I enjoy Sophie's growing count of death scenes. Her specialty.
In all of these, I've enjoyed the role of victimized children: Luca, Zoe Kerrigan, young Parker, by implication young Eliott, Randy. Not overplayed, like in Law and Order UK, where I found the child abuse simply depressing, but well handled. Especially the Haagen-Dazs lines. Every episode, I think I love Parker more.
