I watched the last episode of Merlin this morning with [livejournal.com profile] maaseru and [livejournal.com profile] maaboroshi - "The Morte d'Arthur". Very satisfying, and a nice resolution.

We were impressed hoe much more sophisticated the show was at the end than at the beginning. Less comedy, less of a kid's show.

We speculated on what they were going to do with Guinevere.

Definitely looking forward to series 2.

A Victorian double feature, tonight. I watched Doctor Who: The Next Doctor with [livejournal.com profile] commodorified, [livejournal.com profile] auriaephiala, [livejournal.com profile] raynedaze, and another friend. Again, I found it a little bland - fun to watch, but it didn't excite me the way the best Doctor Who episodes do. Again, I enjoyed the Victorian setting.

So after The Next Doctor we watched The Ruby in the Smoke, in which we saw Matt Smith, the next doctor. The young man who will play Eleven.

Interesting.

I didn't particularly like The Ruby in the Smoke, which seemed way too melodramatic to me, and not in the ways I like. Too many secret meetings with known killers in dark corners - bobody seemed to have an ounce of sense. Too many random murders, too much moustache-twirling on the part of the nasty villainess, who was played by Julie Walters - picturing this horrible killer as the sweet Mrs Weasley amused me no end. I was reminded why I don't like Philip Pullman's writing, but on the other have, I did like his protagonists this time - Sally Lockhart (played well by Billie Pyper), and her friends, including the one played by Matt Smith.

He has an interesting face, a lovely smile, and he runs well. This augurs well for the Doctor.

I got this meme from [livejournal.com profile] omnivorously. He was complaining about how heteronormative it was. Yeah... but I can change the nouns to gender-neutral things, right? I love memes like this. But this one made me feel very, very old.

Normally I never feel old. Why should I? I'm about fifteen at heart, and always will be. No problem. But look how it starts out: "1. The guy you would take to meet your parents." My mother died twenty-five years ago, at which time my father moved to British Columbia. I don't think of lovers in terms of what my parents would think of them. I never did. It's hard to relate. And this particular set of questions seems more teen-age than most. Still... I remember being fifteen rather well. (I haven't changed much, really.)

Okay, let's start again...

1. The girl or guy you would take to meet your parents. )
