Does anyone here know if Converse shoes are good for walking? I found a website that said they were good for 'casual walking', but how casual is 'casual'?

Fangirl here to the nth degree. I could feel some enthusiasm for buying Converse. Hmm: black, like the Doctor's? Or red like Gwen's?

Had a good evening with [livejournal.com profile] commodorified and [livejournal.com profile] auriaephiala. We watched Doctor Who "Daleks in Manhatten". I was pleased to hear that [livejournal.com profile] commodorified agrees with me that the Doctor is sexier and more interesting this series than last, and we had a good conversation as to why this might be.

Then we watched Sharpe's Challenge, and the assorted extras on the DVD. It was fun to see Toby Stephens as the villain, Dodd, when I'd so recently seen him as one of my most-loved heroes, Mr. Rochester in Jane Eyre. I had a bet with [livejournal.com profile] commodorified as to whether Sharpe would shoot Dodd with a pistol or skewer him with a sword; I won. It was Sharpe with a sword in the throne room. Cool. Sorry, I'm putting no spoiler warning on that one, if you couldn't foresee that Sharpe would ultimately do away with Dodd by the time you'd seen the first scene, then you have no notion what Sharpe movies are about.

We were all amused to see a character in the show slashing Sharpe and Harper in the dialogue. And rightly, too.

I love the costuming and the colour and the heroism and the fun of Sharpe, and of course I love Sean Bean, but I wish those movies weren't so predictable and full of cliches, every one of them.

I guess it just means that Bernard Cornwall is not C. S. Forester, and I'm sure he'd be the first to agree.
