This struck me as bizarre.... Vigilante Justice Carried Out by Camera. For one thing, it doesn't look to me like vigilante justice; it isn't exactly The Punisher and no one is creating mayhem. The woman is just reporting illegal activity, albeit for crimes that most people gripe about but overlook. Isn't this a good thing?

Mar. 1st, 2006 10:07 amI finished reading Angel of Destruction by Susan R. Matthews. Much as I love Matthews’ writing style, I didn’t really expect to like this book, because I knew beforehand it wasn’t about Andrej Koscuisko, the tormented torturer who is the star attraction of the Jurisdiction universe. I knew the main viewpoint character in this novel was Garol Vogel, who had appeared in Hour of Judgment. He seemed bland beside Koscuisko’s high-octane angst. (The other Koscuisko novels are An Exchange of Hostages, Prisoner of Conscience, and The Devil and Deep Space.)

Mardi Gras and Ash Wednesday...
Mar. 1st, 2006 03:27 pmReading people's LJs today surprised me a little. People are talking about Mardi Gras and giving things up for Lent, and such ideas are just so far from my consciousness that I had to stop and think: yeah, it is that time of year. And more and more I feel distanced from Christianity or even Christian culture. Now, I never did like Easter or anything associated with it, for numerous reasons, including that it used to involve (when I was a kid) going to my mother's friend's house and eating German food I disliked and wandering around the ice and dirty snow around their house because it was supposed to be good for me, a city girl, to get to spend time outdoors in the country regardless of how boring and cold it might be. Eastertime in the vicinity of Ottawa is not springtime or anything like spring.
I don't even know where the idea of Lent came from. Something else to look up....
I like the increased sunlight, but this is my least favourite time of year.
Yet for some reason I've been feeling great lately. Yesterday the Technical Director at work saw me in passing and said, "You're looking pleased with yourself today."
"I am?" I said, surprised.
"Yeah. You're smiling."
Is that rare?
Truth is, I was feeling really good about things - life, myself, the universe. And still do.
