The Fannish Five
Feb. 20th, 2004 08:05 amThe Fannish Five for this week:
1. Marvel, DC, other?
All my life I'd have said Marvel without hesitation. But these days I'm enjoying Catwoman and the Batman titles so much... I am no longer quite so much a Marvel girl. And through the years I've certainly loved many comics that are "other" - Love and Rockets, Zot!, Bone, Usagi Yojimbo, Mai the Psychic Girl, Akiko, Grimjack, to name a few.
2. Who is your favorite superhero?
Gambit, from the X-Men. (Batman is a close second.)
3. What was your superhero's best story arc?
If I may switch superheroes for a moment, the best story arc was the original Elektra saga in Daredevil around #190 or so. Gambit's own best arc was when Jim Lee was drawing him, regardless of what was happening in the stroryline - though Jim Lee's tenure uncluded that lovely time when Gambit was having a romantic picnic with Rogue and his wife turned up. Aaah, great times in X-Men.
4. Who is your favorite film/tv superhero?
Clark Kent in Smallville. He's the only one I can think of who has lived up to the quality of the original comic book character, though the story and situation is radically different from the comics. This is to say: in the comics, Clark Kent was Superboy. In the TV show, he is not.
Hugh Jackman as Wolverine in X-Men was also exceptional, and the best movie superhero of all is probably Bruce Willis in Unbreakable.
5. Who is your favorite supervillain?
Magneto. There are other good villains, but he's the sexiest and - at his best - the smartest. No contest.
