This was one of those days where I didn't do most of the things I planned, but had a rather nice day anyway.

Breakfast was a special treat: I went to the Mayflower cafe at the corner of Cooper and Elgin, where I had Eggs Florentine and fresh orange juice. Eggs Florentine is my favourite breakfast, which I treat myself to when I go to conventions. There was no convention... No special occasion, except that I felt good.

A funny fanfic recommendation: have a look at Owner's Guide and Maintenance Manual for Aragorn, Gimli, Legolas and Boromir... and Will Turner. Made me laugh. Even induced me to read something on fanfiction.net, which usually I refuse to do. I see the author is into yoga. Good person.

There are new pictures from "The Lord of the Rings" on the TORN site which had me swooning. Some are additions to "The Two Towers", others are from "The Return of the King". My favourite is Aragorn in the White Tower. You may have noticed that I am crazy over Gondor. The White Tower looks magnificent. I also like the tender twosome of Brego and Aragorn, a Man and his Horse.

I tried to watch the special on Nefertiti on the Discovery Channel this evening. I was with two friends: I'm sure I was driving them crazy because the show was driving me crazy. I just can't cope with those things. They are such bad history. They are full of unsupported and unexplained statements, weirdly dramatized visuals, melodramatic pauses, questionable speculation, and rhetorical questions that remind me of Erich Von Daniken's writing. What they are not full of is scholarly argument, background information, explanation of the history or the technology used by the archaeologists, or a real sense of the grandeur of history.

When I was started to shout at the screen I figured it was time to leave before my friends threw me out. In a fit of masochism I tried to turn it on again at my place, but my digital cable connection isn't working. I'll have to phone the company tomorrow.

I finished making my Smallville Monopoly game - put together the board today. A test run is now being scheduled.

I framed and put a portrait of Jack Sparrow on my wall - in the bedroom beside my best portrait of Bodie. If you want to see the picture I used, it's here. I'd attribute my source where I found the picture, but I can't find my note about it.

I spent considerable time cleaning up my bedroom. Months worth of printed-out slash stories in three fandoms (but mostly Smallville) had got themselves into a mess; they are now at least piled neatly and properly, and some of it put ito boxes. It's amazing what you find when you clean your shelves: I'd forgotten I had a Gondorian warrior action figure. I even found two action figures that didn't belong to me - Clark and Lex - they belonged to [livejournal.com profile] maboroshimaki, and there they were, hiding together on my shelf.

The trick is to go on cleaning, not to stop and read.
