So maybe I don't read the right fantasy novels....

I got this from [livejournal.com profile] dolimir: What woman in fantasy am I?

mysteriousbeauty
You're the Mysterious Beauty!

What woman out of fantasy literature are you?
brought to you by Quizilla

Gladriel? She is a mysterious beauty! I don't think so! - Well, maybe she is, in Gimli's eyes. And who is Kahlen Amnell?

OK, that's four of us who have done this, and we're all different!

Kahlen Amnell comes from the Sword of Truth series, by Terry Goodkind.

Well, Galadriel wears more clothes than the female in the pic, so yes, more of her is a mystery. *g*

And maybe they mean Nuclear Galadriel, who is certainly mysterious in a "Where the fuck did that idea come from?" sort of way...

Off to see who I am... *g*

That's more interesting (and fun) than when we all get the same answers.

Is that a good series? Is it something I should be reading?

I like your icon!

Yeah, Nuclear Galadriel. I guess I can cope. Hrrmph.

So: what fantasy female character would I like to be? Hmm... can I pick women from comic books? I want to be Neil Gaiman's Death! There's a fantasy woman for you. She reminds me a little of Philippa. (If that isn't too anomalous an image!)

I can recommend the first 4 or 5, they get progressivly worse IMO. Wizard's first rule is very good, and the first book in the series. They get very political after a while, especially Pillars of Creation. He really rams his belives down your throat in that one. But there's loads of good fun to be had before that. I haven't read the latest two, Debt of Bones, and whatever the newest one is called. They are bloody, portray strong women(especially Kahlen), and aren't so "ideal" as many fantasybooks.

I'd say have a go at them, the first few are good.

Thanks for the description. It soudns intriguing. Okay, I'll give the first one a try - I think I can find it in the public library.

Thank you, thank you! she says in her best fangirly voice. *g* Sneak peek of his Fellowship tattoo.

Neil Gaiman's Death? Would that be from the Sandman graphic novels? The only thing of his that I've read so far is Neverwhere, which didn't make that much of an impression. But [livejournal.com profile] glida_north is sending me a copy of Good Omens, so if Death features in that, I'll be able to see what you mean about Philippa - now that *is* intriguing!

That's [livejournal.com profile] glinda_north. Aargh! Bangs head on desk in frustration at not being able to edit own comments - or am I being thick and there is a way?

Yes, Death is one of the Endless in the Sandman graphic novels - she's Dream's older sister. (Doesn't feature in Neverwhere, which is a different mythology.) Good Omens (written with Terry Pratchett) doesn't feature her either, though it's fun to read (and very funny). Though the funniest thing about it is my memory of Neil Gaiman talking at some convention or other about what it was like to write it... You can find a picture of Death here:

Death is perky and cute and smart and by far the nicest of Dream's odd and diverse mythological family. (Desire is the scariest and happens to be my favourite.)

The resemblance to Philippa is probably in my mind only, and it isn't a physical resemblance, but... it's there for me.

I don't think there is a way to edit comments. I wish there was - I've had the same typo problem too! And I knew you meant [livejournal.com profile] glinda_north, I really did - and didn't even notice the mispelling.

I found a better site to show Death - try this one:

Thanks for the links. I can borrow Death: The High Cost of Living from a friend - I'd forgotten that he bought it last year in a joint consignment of stuff from Amazon. Maybe I can convince him to get the Sandman series. I know he wants to. *eg*

The only way I've found to edit typos is to delete the comment and repost it. I'd already done that once to that comment, before posting the version with the missing "n". Did you get emailed both versions? Sorry!

My (then) 12 year old sister borrowed that one of me, it was amusing how long the last two pages took her :)

It's an amazing story, and I like the Bachalo art. But I think my favourite Death story is still "The Sound of Her Wings" from Sandman #8 - which in a way is the first 'real' Sandman story.

Not fair! Now I'm not only dying of curiosity, I'm also nicely insecure over whether I'll be able to understand the last two pages at all...

Even though I'm not twelve any more

*g*

It was the last two pages of the book which in this case isn't the same as the last two pages of the story :)

Anyway, I'll not spoil anything :)

Finally read it. And, heh, I see what you meant. LOL, if I'd come across them way back when I was twelve, those last few pages would have boggled my mind too!

Thanks for not spoiling! :-)
