I got a paper cut in the palm of my hand last Thurday - a poster I was rolling gouged a small circle of skin out of my hand. No big deal, but it has since become infected. Not terribly painful - less so today than yesterday - but somewhat annoying.

What should I do about it, if anything? I've been doing my best to keep it clean, and I gave it one application of aniseptic ointment.

Any other suggestions?

Apply the antiseptic regularly several times a day, depending on severity. If necessary, keep the cut lightly covered, to make sure it doesn't constantly rub against things (which promotes infection and further irritation), but still open to the air from the sides (bandaid or something).

I don't know that this particular aspect is confusing. Language contact leads to loanwords, borrowed terms that become part of the target language.
