About the child: It seems to me, given the storyline we have, that if we have a young Time Lord, and if it's the Doctor's daughter, the odds are that River Song is its mother, since we've had so many hints that River and the Doctor were/will be/are married to each other.

The Doctor doesn't know because he hasn't got there yet. And River... what does she know? We don't know that yet.

It isn't exactly satisfying as an idea, but it seems to me it's the way Moffat thinks.

The Doctor failed to pursue Jenny because he thought she was dead. This time... he fails to pursue the girl because he thinks she's alive?
