The 30 Days of Torchwood meme:
Day 04: Favourite Episode.
- Utterly romantic. There aren't many good romances on television - I think I could count the ones I've really liked on one hand. This was superb.
- It made sense, psychologically, that our Jack would fall in love with his Captain Jack. The attitude, the personality, the situation - all perfect.
- Toshiko was great. Resourceful, even though uneasy with the point in history she had fallen into.
- Bilis is a terrific villain - mysterious, menacing, ambiguous.
- The unease which had been building between Ianto and Owen comes to a head - and Ianto shoots Owen to save the world from the Rift, or for Jack's sake, or because it was just such a very satisfying thing to do.
- Everyone looks good.
- I liked it that the setting was the depth of the war, during an air raid, yet the story is about dancing and partying.
- Unlike many episodes, everyone seems very in character to me here.
- The kiss. The kiss! So hot.
- The dance was hot, too.
- We learn something about Jack's past - about why he became a soldier in the first place, and why he admires soldiers.
- We have Jack being protective of Tosh, and affectionate with her. While she, in turn, comforts him.
- Good evocation of time and place.
- Nice transposition between past and present.
- Good music.
- Nice use of detail - Tosh's note, the objects in Bilis' office, the clothing, the decrepit modern building in contrast to the lovely old one.
- The Rift monitor really gets some attention for a change.
- Jack tells Toshiko something about his past - a secret. And she never breaks his confidence. I love the trust and friendship between them here.
- Gwen looks great.
- I love the ending - Owen and Ianto bickering about the shooting, Jack with the plane on his desk, and the toast to his lost love.
