Last night there was a stunning thunderstorm. I can't recall a storm like that happening so late in the autumn; I wasn't sure, at first, that it really was a storm. But the sound of thunder is unmistakable.

In the end, I turned off all the lights and sat by my open window, just enjoying the atmosphere and the sound of the thunder and the rain.

Today: it was mild enough, and no rain when I walked to work, and I was hot in my heavy coat. Walked with the zipper open. But by the time I was walking home, the wind had picked up bitterly, and I was wishing for heavier gloves, and the snow was coming down in gusts.

So I think fondly of Eddard Stark again. Winter is coming.

Ahh... sitting in the dark by a nearly-wall-sized window, while a thunderstorm moves through the atmosphere outside. Lovely. The sound, the sight, the energy. Hee.

Here, we have had two days of high wind. Driving is an experience. As one of the radio DJs said, "You become one with your steering wheel." It is not the usual commute, letting one's mind wander while driving: instead, one must be continuously alert for debris on the road, and for other cars veering because of debris ahead of them. And, today, it began to snow. There are power outages all over this part of the state. My electricity went out briefly, at two in the morning, but came back on right away; some of my coworkers have had no power for many hours, which in a couple of cases resulted in certain eight-year-olds having peanut butter and potato chips for supper since everything else in the house needed to be cooked!

The wind seems to be quieter now. Last night, I got to fall asleep to the sound of it, and occasionally the sensation of it, rushing at my walls. Neat to be in a small house, sometimes.

It sounds as if we're having the same weather! Snow last night, power outages (not in the Glebe, though) and lots of wind still this morning. The wind chill factor is sixteen below. Brr. But I was well bundled up; thank goodness for warm gloves. It was a nice walk to work.
