Watched Castle this evening, episode 3x09, "Close Encounters of the Murderous Kind".
At first I thought it was being rather too silly. But it was so cleverly silly that I fell right into it, laughing. Enjoying it thoroughly.
- Lance Henriksen and Lyall Lovett turn up - how do they get these great guest stars? I love Lance Heneriksen's voice. My only complaint was that his role was too small.
- Loved all the movie references (like to Men in Black, and the references to X-Files, and the one to Firefly. There was only one reference to Firefly, right?
- Loved the way Castle was really into the alien abduction thing, because to him it's all about stories. And Beckett struggles to be the voice of reason. Love it when they bet on things.
- Nice plot, too, about the parents of Alexis' boyfriend - and how they thought Castle was fascinating. Well. He tried to be boring. He just can't pull it off.
- I think we're about due for a change in the Castle/Beckett relationship. Either for something to bring them closer, or something to cause a rift. Things are getting too calm.
- I'd also like to see more about Beckett's life. Yes, I know, she works all the time - w hen she isn't reading novels in the bath tub. I'd just like to see her doing something else. Remember the episode when she met up again with a school friend? Something like that. She must have some sort of relative - embarrassing or otherwise.
- Love the way Castle asks Beckett for advice with Alexis, and then Beckett always tells him something that frightens him even more. Like with the parents this week, and the motorcycle a while back. I can't always tell when or whether she's doing it on purpose. I suspect it's usually on purpose.
- The unusual method of murder was interesting, if a little far-fetched. Well, far-fetched was the order of the day, with covert ops and nameless spies.
- Loved it that the agents were named Eastman and Westfield.
- Loved the reference to J. Edgar Hoover.
