I never watched the original Hawaii Five-O, though I have a vague sense of knowing about it - I think my mother used to watch it. I saw no reason to pay attention.

I might have watched the new 2010 show for the sake of Daniel Day Kim, but I heard it wasn't very good, so didn't.

Today we were talking about current TV with Marin and Vicky, and they said that they were watching Hawaii Five-O. They admitted that the stories weren't very good, and that Grace Park's talents were wasted with poor scripting, but they waxed enthusiastic about Alex O'Loughlin aand his tattoos. They even mentioned in passing that the show seemed to have slash potential, except for poor chemistry between the leads.

It sounded to me like a good enough reason to give the show a try, and it happened to be on tonight, so I watch. Yes, O'Loughlin as Garrett is well worth watching, and so IMHO is Grace Park as Kono Kalakaua, though I wasn't too happy that she got to be (a) the babysitter and (b) kidnapped and then rescued - though her casual, "I had it all under control," was maybe the best line in the show. And the very ending, when the three others gave her a private graduation ceremony, truly moved me. The rest... well. Bad script, a plot as meaningless as it was trite - how can something be incomprehensible and predictable at the same time? Too many chase scenes, and the rather intimate banter between the two male leads was sometimes fun and sometimes off-putting. It reminded me of the things I like and don't like about CSI. It's unreal, but not unentertaining.

Still: I'd like to see more of O'Loughlin. Might watch again.
