Okay, I think we're pretty much agreed that Jack Sparrow says 'grammatically', which is what my ears hear.

What about Mr. Gibbs' line when Jack wakes him up by tossing a bucket of water over him? I'm told (and the transcript says) he says "Mother's love! Jack!" but my ears always hear "My first love! Jack!"

He was a wonderful character too, but then - aren't they all?

I could have sworn he said, "My first love, Jack!" I think the actors played with the lines and didn't do exactly what the script said. *eg*

Bless 'em, then, what a wonderful bunch they are. Really: I don't think there's a character there, from the likes of Johnny Depp and Geoffrey Rush downward to the tiniest cabin boy whose only onscreen moment was edited out - there's not an actor in that movie who didn't put in a strong, idiosyncratic, heartfelt, convincing, amusing, talented and entertaining performance.

Kevin McNally included.

So if they embellish.... Or if the script is just too good to be true anyway.... it's a win-win situation. For us the viewers particularly.

Hey, even the pig was good. Great timing.
