I was reading the online transcription of the script of "Pirates of the Caribbean" and I noticed the text has Jack Sparrow saying to Governor Swann, "Well! I'm actually feeling rather good about this. I think we've all arrived at a very special place, eh? Spiritually, ecumenically, dramatically?"

I always thought he said, "Spiritually, ecumenically, grammatically," which always struck me as hilarious - and not a question on his part, either. More of a directive.

That's exactly how I heard it, too. Maybe we have poor hearing!

I did get to see it again, btw. Am hoping to go again before its run ends in a couple of weeks. Make sure you do, too!

I'm not sure the transciber is right. The one interpretation makes as much sense as the other - and with Jack, you never can tell!

Me too.

Am hoping to go again

Me too!

He does say 'grammatically'. I saw it for the first time only day before yesterday, and this was one of the lines that totally did me in. I'm certain you heard it right. And of course I absolutely loved the movie. It's every bit as amazing as I hoped it would be after reading what *cough*some people*cough* on my friends list have been saying about it. ;) I managed more detailed opinions in my journal entry here (http://www.livejournal.com/users/isagel/21660.html#cutid1). For now, let's just say I'm very much down with the Jack Sparrow love. *g*

Excuse me, I just got distracted big-time by your amazingly sex icon. How... inspirational.

He does say 'grammatically'.

Thank you for the confirmation! I was almost certain....

this was one of the lines that totally did me in

Oh, me too. It floored me.

I'm very much down with the Jack Sparrow love

Isn't he great?

Well

The junior novelization doesn't include that line (of course, I think it only includes about 1/18 of the lines, anyway, as the letters are roughly the size of Luxemburg, and it's still short), but I'm with you. Both times I saw the movie I was dead certain it was "grammatically." Honestly, I didn't even consider it could be something else. I suspect whoever did the transcript did it on the fly and misheard. At least...I hope so.

What a shame if it isn't! That was one of the cleverest, out there lines in the movie. Had me cackling on and off for quite some time.

Transcripts are often wrong. I'm almost positive it's "grammatically".

LOL Too true! This had me in stitches.

In a movie that's full of them. Yes. I thought it was brilliant, and I laugh every time.

Yes, I think the maker of the transcript probably just made an error.

Yep, it's gramatically. I'm sure of it.

It's Jack Sparrow's world, baby, and we're all just livin' in it. *g*
