It isn't a matter of deserving a second chance, really. It's a matter of thinking "do I have the tolerance, the goodwill and the calmness of mind to forgive what this person did? And if I can forgive it, should I?"

Date: 2009-03-22 05:48 pm (UTC)I am also reminded of comments from a certain faith saying "Don't judge someone, or you will be judged the same way." I have looked at myself in a mirror, and have been reminded how unreliable our judgment can be. Do we really measure up to our own standards? I'm not sure I do ... that mirror again, you gotta love it. :-)

I think judging people is fair - people aren't all the same, morally speaking, and we should be aware of that. There are things we shouldn't be tolerant of. The trick is: don't judge people harshly, or through prejudice.
Do we really measure up to our own standards?
Sometimes yes, sometimes no. I don't think that means we shouldn't have standards. Just that we should apply them carefully.
Which sometimes means forgiving wrongs.
