At My Most Beautiful
"I found this in the archives," said Ianto.
It was a Victorian photograph, a close-up of Jack's battered face, his skull half-crushed from what might have been a blow from a blunt object.
"Early days at Torchwood," said Jack, lightly.
"Who did that to you?"
"It doesn't matter. We became friends, later."
Ianto's eyes were bright with fury. "You had brutal friends."
Jack nodded. "I still do. They don't take my photo at my most beautiful. Terrible thing."
"Jack!"
Jack put his hand over Ianto's, and the photograph. "Let it go. They didn't know what they were doing. Forgive them."

Date: 2008-12-22 09:55 pm (UTC)I love Ianto's inner tigress: do NOT fuck with Jack. Captain John knows all about it, and I pity the Doctor if Ianto ever finds out what he did to Jack. And whew, if Jack ever tells Ianto what Grey did...
You are without doubt the Queen of Drabbles, my dear.

I love Ianto's inner tigress: do NOT fuck with Jack.
I love that too. Is it just my imagination, or does it become more in evidence as time goes by?
Captain John knows all about it, and I pity the Doctor if Ianto ever finds out what he did to Jack.
My goodness, yes. The Oncoming Storm meets the Furious Tempest. The timelines would never be the same again.
And whew, if Jack ever tells Ianto what Grey did...
There just might be an "accident" in the morgue.

Date: 2008-12-23 06:17 am (UTC)It's not your imagination. Ianto's last bit of rebellion against Jack was in End of Days. Once Jack arose from the dead and forgave him with a lover's kiss, that was it. Ianto has been for Jack since then. He's as protective of Jack now as he was of Lisa then.
It's part of how he demonstrates his love. It's funny, really, because it's Ianto who needs the protection, but that's just not how it works out.
There just might be an "accident" in the morgue.
Indeed. He might hesitate, because it's Jack's baby brother after all, but oh, he'd think of something.

Date: 2008-12-23 01:56 pm (UTC)He defied Jack in "Adrift", but that was another sort of issue - a procedural disagreement.
He's as protective of Jack now as he was of Lisa then.
And Ianto is extremely loyal. (As Jack is; it's something they have in common.)
it's Ianto who needs the protection, but that's just not how it works out.
I think it's a sign of how human Ianto is, that he wants to protect Jack. And Ianto has a very nurturing personality. I think he sees through Jack to his emotional vulnerabilities and that makes him all the more protective.
He might hesitate, because it's Jack's baby brother after all, but oh, he'd think of something.
It would be like the situation in "Cyberwoman" in reverse. Ianto couldn't bring himself to kill Lisa, or what was left of her; Jack and the Team had to do it for him. I'm sure Ianto would see the value in removing the threat posed by Grey. The difference would be that Grey was targeting Jack specifically - destroying the world was unnecessary collateral damage - while the Cyberwoman was impersonal in her ambitions. I'm sure Ianto wouldn't care much about the philosophical distinction.
