Just to remind myself of this site's existence:

Snowflake.

It's pretty, it's frivolous, and I love it.

Their tagline is: "Because it's always snowing somewhere." I can tell you where, too. It's always snowing in Ottawa.

(Looking out the window in bemused disbelief. It's still snowing. Is this an early start to outdo last year's snow achievements?)

This should be fun. I wonder how much hasn't been set aside in the budget for snow removal this time ;-)

My sister lives in Airdrie, just north of Calgary. In the ~20 years she's lived there, she has had snow in every month of the year (not necessarily in the SAME year), including July and August. Yuck. Not something I could say with living in Mississauga!

North of Calgary - is that because she's rather far north (compared to Mississauga and compared to Ottawa), or is it because the altitude is high, or is it just because Alberta gets wonky weather?

Brrr!

I complain about our heat in July but I really don't want snow then, too. Really.

Why is it they always seem to budget for 'hardly any snow' when we always get piles and piles?

I have a friend who thinks the whole bus strike/dispute is an elaborate conspiracy so the City to might have money for snow contol.

Probably a combination of all of those factors. Calgary area gets wonky weather partly because of being relatively close to the mountains. Eg. chinooks can raise the temp 30-40C in a few hours.

I always think Ottawa weather is crazy, but that sounds so much worse.

It's snowing in Portland, too. And they tell me it's snowing in Seattle. We got the day off because it MIGHT turn to ice. (I love preemptive worrying when someone else does it.)

Getting time off for it is especially nice! Here, it's so common that we are expected to be at work anyway - ice and snow is normal enough to be unremarkable, inconvenient enough to keep us complaining.

Though actually today is a little worse than usual: in our office, only two of us out of five have managed to come in to work today, so it's dead.

And we're thinking very, very seriously of heading up your way. Even checking out hotel rates. Woo, it's affordable except now we're worried about the SNOW!!!!11!!!

It was snowing here just south of Seattle this morning. It turned to rain this afternoon. It's supposed to turn back to snow tonight, then drop down into the teens and not get over the mid-twenties for the next week or so, with intermittent stuff coming down of one sort or another. Supposedly the longest cold snap in twenty years.

If I wanted Ottawa weather, I'd be living in Ottawa...

What, you don't want to share our bounty?

Faugh. The weather's a mess everywhere.

Guess what? We're getting more snow.

As if we need more snow.

Yes, well, you're supposed to get more snow. Till April, I believe you told me? [d,rvvvvf].

Yes. But it doesn't all have to fall this week!

I agree with you. Wholeheartedly.

[stares out at the couple of inches that fell last night]

They keep predicting snow. They keep predicting masses and masses of snow. They could save their breath. We see it coming down.

On the other hand, it never seems to come in the same quanity or at the same time that they predict on any given day.

Maybe they should try predicting hot and sunny and see what happens.
