Today is the day of the St. Patrick's Day Parade in Ottawa. Now, I wouldn't claim this was any kind of a big deal - I didn't even know we had St. Patrick's Day Parades, having spent most of my life paying no attention. But this morning I was downtown, and decided to drop by the library on my way to my hairdresser's, and discovered that if I crossed Laurier Avenue I'd probably find myself on the wrong side of a very large number of people dressed in green. So I wandered along Laurier instead, taking photos of a parade that hadn't actually started yet.

1. Mounties at the head of the parade. I'm used to Mounties at events like this being large men, but these were both pretty girls.

2. Watching the parade. I liked this woman's shamrock scarf.

3. A woman sitting on the rocks outside the Courthouse.

4. A Celtic Cross on a float.

5. The Green Man, and his friend.

6. Cycling in the parade.

7. My hairdresser: Vey at The Connoisseur. It's a little-known secret that she's the best hairdresser in Ottawa.

In all of these pictures, you may note the bizarre absence of snow.
