We are going to Malta. Lyn, Beulah and I signed up last night; the cheque will be in the mail tomorrow.

Malta.

I am excited.

Yes, for a dozen reasons. I love visiting Europe. I love countries rich in history. I love islands. I love the Mediterranean - insofar as I have (barefly) glimpsed it. I love Dunnett gatherings with Dunnett readers in general, and some of the people who will be there, specifically. I love many of the things we will be doing - going out in boats, watching and discussing The Lord of the Rings, seeing art.

And just looking at all that ocean and sky. Yes, lucky, and very happy about this.

My grandmother visitted Malta once eyars ago on her way to Australia, she has a lovely shawl from there, I think because of that it has always been on my list of "if I actualy had the money I wanted I would go to..."

I am buying the Dunnett books all of a series. She seems to be someone whose world you wouldn't want to snap out of midway through.

And it sounds like a lovely holiday in all ways.

I'm working on the money thing. Having Malta as a goal in mind has helped focus my budget. Otherwise I know it would never happen.

Probably not! Though I had to read each book as it was published and can't even imagine being able to read them all at once.

Malta! That's wonderful. I hope that you all enjoy yourselves. When are you going, if you know?

We're going in October. There's a Dunnett Gathering (called The Siege of Malta) from Oct. 17 to 20. We plan to go and stay another ten days. I was urging that we stay another month but the collective wail of "we can't afford it" was inarguable. We will stay as long as we can. Logistics are still being studied.

My thought process on this matter can pretty much be summed up by:

Uh... Listen, why don't you just win that lottery and be done with it?

::shakes fist:: I'm not 18 yet, that's why.

With time, you will be.

Selected members of my family might not agree about that.

Hee! But you wouldn't listen to them anyway, right?

Well, I wish you could come too. It would be fun to meet you in person. Perhaps there will be another convenient gathering in North America soon?

I would love to meet you too. I also hope there is a convenient gathering coming up soon, though I admit to being out-of-the-loop in Dunnetdom of late (haven't checked Marzipan in eons).

I would love to see Malta, if only I could afford it :-(. The trip to Scotland/Europe pretty much put me out for awhile.

Your icon is hideously distracting. I had something intelligent to say and it'... definitely gone.

And hideously enjoyable. Admit it. *grin*

Oh, well, of course. Although not as enjoyable as-- wait, no. I'm not going to say that.

Not as enjoyable as making him look like that.

There, I said it.

...And do you seriously think anyone here would disagree?

Or that anyone here didn't think that as soon as they saw the icon?

Or maybe it was just me, but... whew.

From: [identity profile] widget-alley.livejournal.com
Yeah, but if you don't say it, and then you wait until someone insists, the dramatic effect is heightened. I think, anyway.

And it definitely wasn't just you.

What was it you were saying? I can't hear you, I was looking at your icon again... ;)

Nothing much is happening on Marzipan or any of the Dunnett lists recently. You aren't missing anything!

I'm sure your trip to England was worth it. Maybe you can come to the next Dunnett gathering, wherever it may be.

Does Jean no longer head the Marzipan list? Who does, if not? (I don't think she does)

Um... I may be misremembering but I think Mickey's doing it, with back-up from Jean.

You're reminding me that I'd better enlist - don't need a hotel booking, but I don't want to miss out on anything else - so will probably go for "everything" too.

Wouldn't it be awful if you were too late to enlist and all the spaces on the bus or boat or at the banquet were filled up? Enlist! Do it now! Don't procrastinate!

You are right, I would hate that to happen! I've been trying to decide whether I'll have the energy to do everything, or whether I'd do better to limit things slightly. I'll probably opt out of the Maltese night - the other question mark is the boat trip...

Oh help! When I click on Form 1 to try and enlist, it gives me "Table 'simonhedges_com1.ds_sharing' doesn't exist". I think an SOS email to Simon is in order!

Have you asked his help? Have you got in yet? I've enlisted - and just have to mail the cheque now.

Malta, here I come.
