The fannish Friday Five...
Mar. 20th, 2004 07:34 amFrom The Fannish Friday Five:
1. What music would your fandom's characters listen to?
In Smallville it's canon that Lionel listens to opera, Clark listens to rock, and Lex... we don't really know. I imagine Gambit would like Cajun music and Wolverine would like Anne Murray, Celine Dion and Alannis Morissette. (heh.) Bodie and Doyle seemed to listen to British pop music of the 70s and 80s (i.e., their time). I wonder what the Firefly crew would like?
Tolkien doesn't talk much about music, except for songs, so we hear what the Lord of the Rings guys like - pub songs for Hobbits and antique Elvish songs for Numenoreans, though with variation.
2. What cars would your fandom's characters drive?
Lex drives fast European cars. Clark drives Ford trucks. Lionel drives limos. Chloe drives colourful cars. There's no speculation here. The Serenity folk drive the things we see in the show - cargo vehicles, mostly, though they ride horses too. The Lord of the Rings guys mostly walk.
3. What pets would your fandom's characters have?
Clark ought to have a dog. Lex has horses - not that we've seen them, but I assume that a person with stables would have horses. If I were to give Lex a pet (fictionally speaking), I would give him a snake . That isn't a dig - I love snakes. Lionel might have a chameleon or iguana.
There's no room for pets on Serenity. I can see Kaylee with a hamster, though, which Jayne would be fascinated by.
4. What drinks/cocktails would your fandom's characters drink?
Lex drinks fine brandy, as does Lionel. Clark seems to go for milk at home, coffee otherwise - and lots of it. Lex likes capuccino.
Hobbits like beer, or, on occasion, Entdraught.
5. What do your fandom's characters smell like?
Um... they smell good. At least in my stories, they do.

Edgy alternative rock and punk. In Hourglass, when he pulls up to the mansion, Dispatch (http://www.dispatchmusic.com/site/)'s "Time Served" (http://www.lyricsdownload.com/cgi-bin/frames.cgi?http://www.lyricsdownload.com/dispatch-time-served-lyrics.html) is playing on the car stereo. In X-Ray, when he drives away from Roger Nixon, Unwritten Law (http://www.mtv.com/bands/az/unwritten_law/artist.jhtml) "Up All Night" (http://www.seeklyrics.com/lyrics/UNWRITTEN-LAW/Up-All-Night.html) is playing on the stereo. There's also a fairly funky dance-mix sounding song playing as he drives along the road in Drone before spotting Carrie Kastle, but it's not really clear if the song is merely on the episode soundtrack or actually playing on Lex's car stereo.
