It's been a funny day. I slept twelve hours last night - close enough - and it felt good. Planned to do things, ended up reading and then falling asleep on the sofa. What happened to the life of accomplishment and excitement that I want to be living?

Watched some more of Cowboy Bebop. I'm enjoying it very much - and it reminds me very much of Firefly: the old west ambience, the country-western music, the notion that being a bounty hunter isn't so unlike whatever it is that Mal Reynolds does for a living, and the people they meet have a certain resemblance. The fact that they fly around in a battered of spaceship which they love. The fact that - though on the surface the men are not much alike - they have a similar sense of humour, and a similar sense of courage.

Of course, resembling Firefly is not a bad thing. Not at all.

One of the things I love about Doctor Who and Torchwood fandom is the music vids.

There were some brilliant vids in Horatio Hornblower fandom, and I have some old favourites from The Professionals, but it isn't an aspect of fandom I participate in - I just appreciate the good vids when I find them. That used to be a matter of going to conventions, or sharing CDs by mail with other fans, but thanks to new web venues like Megauploads and YouTube, it's vid heaven.

At least for this Doctor Who and Torchwood fan. There seem to be three types of vid: the ones where I can't tolerate the music; the ones that seem to have no point; and the others, the beautiful, clever, well-crafted ones that make me laugh and pull me in and sometimes break my heart. In Torchwood fandom, it's a bonus when the vid is done to a John Barrowman song. Dare I ask vidders of the world for more of that? Pleae? Begging you on bended knee?

This rambling is all a prelude to a recommendation of [livejournal.com profile] emiloy's new Jack/Doctor vid to Vicki Carr's version of I will wait for you, which... well, thematically and musically, it's just as right as it can be and it still breaks my heart.
